The buyer who won the $1 bid for my weight bench never paid so relisted it again, no biggie, I guess the buyer changed his mind. Not sure why though eBay allows the buyer about 5 days to pay which is a waste of time and eBay should shorten the amount of time to pay to maybe 1 day or even make it instantaneous at the end of the auction and deduct the funds from the buyer's funds automatically.

Buyers have 4 days to pay, which is ridiculous. They have been very slowly rolling out instant payment. They started with Buy It Now listings and are moving on to Offers and Auctions.Originally posted by QuarterMillionMan View PostThe buyer who won the $1 bid for my weight bench never paid so relisted it again, no biggie, I guess the buyer changed his mind. I have a vintage 1985 winnebago I've been trying to sell for a while. Not having any luck on FB marketplace (TONS of inquiries, no one serious). I've also listed on a Classic Winnebagos site and had a few almost buyers who backed out last minute. I've never sold on Ebay or other sellers platforms outside of Facebook. Would it be worth a try to put it up for bid? I can't imagine buying something like this from an auction - what types of documentation and/or info would I want in my listing to provide confidence to buyers? It runs and drives but its obviously old and not in mint condition but I'm also just looking for a fair price on it - far less than that I've got in it from fixing it up. Appreciate any ideas on how I get this thing out of my driveway.

eBay motors is a very popular platform for selling vehicles. I wouldn’t do an auction. Not even sure if that’s an option. Just list it the same way you’ve listed it elsewhere.Originally posted by riverwed070707 View PostI have a vintage 1985 winnebago I've been trying to sell for a while. You can run auctions on ebay motors. I just did a quick search for 1985 Winnebago and there are a few solds, all but one sold at auction.Originally posted by disneysteve View Post

Ebay is too much work. Enter your info at Camping World and they'll give you a cash offer on the spot.

Cool idea in concept. I entered my RV details and it said it was eligible for a trade in if I purchase a new one from them. For giggles, I picked out a new RV to see what they'd offer and it popped up with a message that someone would call me.Originally posted by QuarterMillionMan View PostEbay is too much work. August 2023 wrap up
Ebay:
$653.92 gross
$478.35 net
Marketplace and other:
$145.00 gross
$141.36 net
Totals:
$798.92 gross
$619.71 net
26 ebay sales; 1 Marketplace sale; 1 direct online sale to a previous ebay customer
I took a bit of a break in August. I can't say I lost interest but I definitely lost some motivation. I think the heat was getting to me. The estate sales can be sweltering as they aren't typically air conditioned. We also had a lot going on at home and I picked up a couple of extra shifts at work. Still, I was comfortably over my $500 profit goal and August was only the 3rd lowest profit month of the year so far so not too awful.
I'm hoping the cooler weather will bring more sales and more energy on my part. I just got home from a sale actually and picked up several things so I'm off and running for September. After lunch, I'll start photographing and listing them.Last edited by disneysteve; 09-01-2023, 04:36 PM.Steve

A thing happened! I listed it on EBay motors as an auction with the bid price starting at $2500 AND SOMEONE BOUGHT IT. Was super pumped. Go to reach out to them, see they have sent me a message already and person is explaining how they want to make payments of $400/mo. I'm in the business of lending so initially I thought of course I'd do that - I'd just make them carry full coverage and hold the title until it was paid in full. Then I got to thinking about it more and I don't think its possible to get full coverage on a 40 year old vehicle + what would my recourse be if they wrecked it or it broke down, they abandoned it and stopped paying? Is this a scam? Does ebay have any protections if I set up a payment plan? Considering telling her I'll do it, but she can't have possession until its paid for. Is that unreasonable?Originally posted by disneysteve View Post

I have no personal experience with ebay motors but I assume it works like the rest of ebay. When you buy something, you have to pay for it.Originally posted by riverwed070707 View Post

I would not arrange financing with some stranger on the internet. I vote scam.Steve

Keep in mind too that now that the sale was completed you are now on the hook to pay eBay the commission and fees on $2500. Disneysteve probably knows exactly how much you'll have to pay but I'm guessing 10% - 15%. I would be firm with the buyer to pay the $2500 or else I would open a claim with eBay to cancel the sale.

Let the buyer know they need to pay as agreed upon. After 4 days if they haven’t paid you can cancel for nonpayment. They get a ding on their account (which doesn’t mean much). You get your fees back except for a very small bit of it. Then you can relist.Originally posted by QuarterMillionMan View PostKeep in mind too that now that the sale was completed you are now on the hook to pay eBay the commission and fees on $2500. There's no commission on ebay motor sales - just the list fee (I chose the lowest package at $20). Called support yesterday to better understand the deposit process because everything I was reading said it is not automatically withdrawn when a bidder wins an auction but rather they have to initiate the deposit once making arrangements to get it. Kind of a garbage policy in my opinion - essentially with motors, you can bid on anything you want with no commitment to buy. Plus side of my call, I was able to get my list fee refunded with minimal hassle. I don't think I'll probably re-list as I'm struggling to see the benefit of the platform at least on the auto sideOriginally posted by QuarterMillionMan View PostKeep in mind too that now that the sale was completed you are now on the hook to pay eBay the commission and fees on $2500. I've never sold a vehicle there but I'd think the benefit is for $20 you get a nationwide audience. Maybe there are other places to do that but I really don't know.Originally posted by riverwed070707 View Post
