  • Does Anyone Actually Care About Amazon Prime Day?

So, I've started seeing a couple of news and marketing emails come across my inbox this week talking about Amazon Prime Day.

Does anyone actually care about Prime Day? Or is this just a made up commercial "holiday"?

100% figment of Amazon's creation, little different than Black Friday. Though I think they started doing it as a whole week of "prime day" ads (actually, still just like black Friday).

Tragically, they're very good at marketing & have deep market penetration... So they will almost certainly get significant sales volume during the promotion, because people are suckers.

Not to speak ill of my lovely DW, but she's got terrible impulse control and I'm almost afraid of how much junk will show up. I've asked her to be more deliberate & discerning with her spending, but... Ugh.... I wish I could convince her of how much she gets played by marketing & ads & meaningless recommendations from friends.

The only reason I care is if there's a deal on something I've been wanting or needing. I've been using the "list" feature to track things I may eventually need to purchase, or want, but am not ready to buy.

Amazon has probably given me more in real estate gains over the past 10 years than I've actually spent with them. I also get to say I "supported a local business" when I shop with them. But the same rules apply when shopping Amazon like everywhere else...if I don't want it or really need it, it can wait...
      History will judge the complicit.

Nope. I pay zero attention. I think my wife browses a bit but when we want something from Amazon, which is usually at least once or twice a week, we go on and buy it.

I had to Google it just now to see what it is.

            No, don't care.

Nope, don't care. I would not browse their sale because shopping like that really bores me.

Perhaps will browse - but at this point it's unlikely we'd find anything we need (or want).

I don't even have Amazon Prime.

I do make quite a few purchases from Amazon each year. It looks like (16) orders placed so far this year alone.

When I do make a purchase, I typically select "Free Shipping" which is usually listed on the order of one week. The orders arrive second day, more than half the time.

As for missing out on Amazon's streaming services, I already have Netflix. And at $10 per month, I do think I am getting my moneys worth, but the less time I spend watching TV, the better.

From the responses it seems like most of you pay for Amazon Prime? I never have, and just don't see the cost benefit. For awhile they were tying certain purchases (in the grocery section) to Prime so you had to join to buy the item.

They do get me with Kindle Unlimited, but I pay two years at a time in advance and it's saved a fortune in fiction books.

We do. Is it worth it? Hard to say. We do order a lot and the free and fast shipping is nice. Sometimes even same day delivery. Sure beats driving to a store and hoping they have what you want and then paying a higher price than on Amazon. We do watch some Prime Video though not a lot. I think my daughter uses that feature more than DW and I. I'm sure we could live without it but for $139/yr, I'm okay keeping it at this point.

For us living so remotely, it makes more sense to order things on Amazon than to drive to civilization. Our little town has a small grocery store, hardware store, and auto parts store, and that's it. When we lived in the middle of everything, we didn't see the cost benefit either.

I order a ton of stuff from Amazon, but I just check the 5 to 8 day Free Shipping option. Every so often it does take 8 days, but generally it runs about 3 days.

Personally I don’t care, but it does wreak havoc at my employer because Amazon gets really weird with their buying pattern around their big sale days adjusting inventory levels on a lot of their offerings. It isn’t the same year to year so very tough to predict.

I haven't ordered anything from Amazon since July 2020. It's just not a go-to for me.
