  • Due to COVID, our financial future deteriorated.
Worked for a Vendor of the State & worked for the County,
Combined it was 36.5 hours a week shift- Wed 3pm-Fri 9am
I had 6 hrs off in between. Off Thursdays 9am-3pm
MAJOR OVERTIME 3x a year when I'd work Wed 3pm until Sun 5pm
NO TIME off during this straight 5 day shift
I also added to my EBAY inventory too since she loved to go Thrifting

    Perks:

✦Paid to sleep averaging 7 hrs a night. Some staff faired better but it takes me a while to fall asleep
Woken up a few times but usually for 30 seconds to a max of 3 minutes so easy to fall back asleep.
✦Paid to exercise. I ran for almost 45 min straight each day. Client loved to ride her adult trike and I'd push her /run alongside when no other staff would.
The other staff was older or out of shape so showed no desire to do it.
Paid to shop at Thrift Stores 2 hrs a week. Adding to my Ebay inventory
✦Medical and Dental insurance for my husband and I.✦ $55 a month.✦ He had a $100 deductible, I had none.
I also had a limited indemnity plan for myself thru the County. They wouldn't allow us to add on a spouse.
    - Pan American Limited Indemnity Plan- Excellent for $10 a month (factored into the $55 above)

Client was from a Mental Institutution, raised in Foster Care. Long criminal history, homeless, in jail much of her life
California is closing all the mental institutions down. These people need to acclimate to society and all have paid staff.
A small portion have 24/7 staff. We only kept one out of 10 people who started the job, it was difficult for most.

Getting the shot became such an issue for the company they folded up.
Staff didn't want it. I received 1 year of unemployment benefits due to it.
Somehow I thought I'd be doing this job for another 10+ years so it was a major blow

Wee considered our 2nd home a vacation home... until COVID.
70% built now unable to complete it. Yet now it is our home for good.
I have no extra money to pay this mortgage for much longer.
We will downsize in 2 yrs
We will sell this house, use the profit to complete the build
    Owning it free and clear

We lived at the off grid how's efor some months to get an idea on the costs and LOVED the cycling.
We lived in our RV. Another State recreation area surrounded by trails, rivers, campgrounds, etc. similar to our current area
Except we are 1 hr from ski resorts so the snow is horrendous here.

These were our expenses just 2 years ago.

    ✦Expenses- Off Grid House
$50 Prop Tax. County has not came up to see progress, this will increase to $200 (estimate)
    $125 Internet, landline, security system
$125 EBIKES (wear and tear and maintenance)
$150 Mtn Bikes (we already budget this in)
    $60 Auto Insurance
$40 Tires (extra expense, the hills there wear out tires
    --------------------------------------
    $550 Month Fixed expenses

We still have a mortgage on this house. Plus Water, propane & power bills.
Offf-grid house runs off of solar power, and we'lll buy an E-CAR by then
    Artesian springs= no water bill.

We'll take Social Security early which is a combined is $2100 per month. Yes major poverty level,
Prior he was going to take it at Full Retirement Age

His business is seasonal, I work with him a little and do my Ebay store.
When we move in 2 yrs, it may be possible I can start back to working for another company if they have clients
Right now, there is no company that direction and no clients.

The other half of the year...when we are not working...he will qualify for a Medicare Savings Program at 65.
If I don't get back to work f/t again after we move.
Not having to pay that $160 a month for half of the year ...until I take RMD's which will cover it

A very secure job not many people can do it...we went through so many staff
Technically the company was considered providing "Crisis Unit Services"
Hence why we had so many overtime opportunities.
Clients were moved to Sacramento where there are more people, thus are people willing to get the Jaba Jaba
At least that is the reason given by the owner of our company

    • So, I got a call yesterday... both my parents came down with Covid for the first time earlier this week. So far, both of their infections are very mild, and their doctor put them on Paxlovid. Otherwise they are both extremely active and healthy in their mid-70's. They said if they had to guess, they probably got it at the gym. I'm just thrilled they still go to the gym in their 70's, TBH, catching covid aside.

When talking about the emotional effect of Covid, this means only two people in my close circle remain that have not gotten covid. Seeing my parents with only a mild infection provides me some relief. Some of their relatives have not been as lucky.
      History will judge the complicit.

      • Is there any truth to more free COVID test becoming available soon?

          • Neggie, sore throat today so tested myself. A positive would be indicated with a red line under the "T." Still haven't gotten it (knock on wood).

That's good. Depending on when symptoms started, you should retest in a day or two to be sure. One negative doesn't mean you don't have it, especially if you tested soon after onset of symptoms. That's a common mistake people make which results in the virus spreading more.

              • Good advice okay will do since I have one more test remaining. Sore throat started this morning so it could be too early when I tested today. Either Saturday or Sunday, I will retest again and post the next results here. BTW, I ordered my next free set which on the website said will begin mailing out on Dec 19 but who knows how long it'll take to receive.

                • Apparently I’ve had it all week.

I was so busy with work (from home) that it just seemed like my normal cough type cold and maybe touch of flu. It wasn’t until Thursday that we tested someone in the house and got a positive.

Today I felt pretty good. But it was definitely up and down with feeling good but then not feeling so good. Curious to see what the next week looks like.

first time we got it (might have had it Feb 2020 before it was even known - guess we’ll never know)

I hope you and whoever else is there with you all feel better soon.

                    • Friday started w/sore throat. Today Saturday coughing, thick phlem discharge in nose & throat, body aches, and chills. Took a warm shower to warm up. My energy is low even putting on my clothes. My breathing is labored,

BTW, I got 4 shots with the last shot in May 2022. Got the flu shot in Sep 2022.

                      • I have most of these symptoms except no loss of taste or no loss of smell, no nausea, no vomitting, no diarrhea. But everything else I have which could be COVID.

                        • It is Sunday morning now and I hives and rashes so I'm convinced it's not COVID. I'm allergic to seafood and must have unknowingly in Las Vegas eaten maybe seafood juices at the buffets. I get severe allergic reactions to seafood, when I used to eat it a lot of it as a kid. Once I became an adult I became allergic. The rash started showing up on Saturday night which always begins at my core (ie, stomach, inner thighs, etc). Now Sunday morning it is spreading to my arms and legs. The symptoms are very similar to COVID symptoms.

DS would know better than me, but hives/rash does not sound like COVID. Hope you feel better soon!

                            • I used to love shrimps but now 1 shrimp would kill me. After the sore throat comes coughing and thick yellow then green mucus, along with headaches, body aches, chills, then hives. Sometimes my body would get swollen and my eyes would be almost shut swollen and my eyes would burn like it's on fire. My throat swells up too and gets difficult to breathe. I used to have epipens but stopped getting them when the price soared years ago to $1000 a pen. I figured it be cheaper to call 911 or go to the ER. Now I know how people die from let's say peanut allergies or other allergies. It is serious stuff. One of my nieces who has lupus also has a shelfish allergy and she gets it bad too like me.

                              • Allergic reaction started Friday, now Monday sneezing, runny nose, sore throat, rash going away but now itchy. It's over the hill and now downhill but not back to 100%, maybe at 70% today.

This was mild compared to other times. Can be deadly like COVID if severe. As for antihistimines such as Benedryl, it helps a little by why the manufacturer adds a sleepy medication to its formula is beyond me. I just want the antihistimine and not the sleepy part of the medication.
