  • Carry a backup card

I was out yesterday running errands and I received a fraud notification on my phone for my primary credit card. $0.41 had been charged by a company I had never heard of, and it wasn't me who placed the charge. So the bank reversed the charge and shut the card off. I do carry cash, but not that much. My dog was being seen at the vet, which is usually $250+ just setting foot inside the door.

Thankfully I carry a backup credit card and I went on with my day.

This was a good reminder for me to always carry a second card - even moreso when I travel - in case one card inadvertently gets shut off!
    History will judge the complicit.

I always have 3 credit cards. I also have a debit card though don’t think I’ve ever used it.

Yep, I've had one shut off for fraud while traveling and was glad we had another card on hand.

I keep 2 credit cards on me in addition to my debit card.

        Sort of similar story:

About a year ago I was travelling for work, so I parked in the long-term lot at the airport. When I got home I had to drive through the security gates to exit the lot. In order to do so you have to run your card so they can bill you for your time there. Once the card processes the security gate opens to let you out. Well, the machine was unable to read the barcode or the chip on my primary card. There was no person working there, no help button, no phone number to call for help. Thankfully, I had a backup card on me, or I still might be stuck in the airport parking lot.

Same. And when I travel, I also bring a second form of ID which I keep in a separate location, so that if I lost my wallet and my primary form of ID, I could use the secondary form (passport card) to still board my flight home.

Good one! Makes me recall the M.T.A. song that I learned in guitar class way back when.

Good tip about carrying a 2nd card, ua_guy

Yep, I always carry at 3 just for that reason and of course like most people I've had my card "compromised' many times. Seem's like at least yearly. And another thing people don't think about when traveling, especially international. Have your spouse (or other traveler) carry a separate credit card that you aren't carrying duplicate of. If you lose or have your wallet or purse stolen, all your credits are shut down and you're stuck without any card. At least you'll have one as a backup this way.
