I think a lot of people who don't use the f150 for serious hauling or longer than around town will buy it and use it a lot. It'll make sense with less than 100 miles towing. So they will hit their target market

Ford has some pretty smart people in their Marketing department, so maybe you're right.
But, Ford did bring us the Edsel, the Pinto, and the Mustang II.
