  • How much cash are you carrying?

Thought this might be fun. Just checked, I've got $445 in my billfold and money clip.

I grew up in my first jobs getting paid cash, then used to be paid by check and go cash it at the bank or a grocery store. Have just always carried cash and prefer it to credit cards and debit cards, still pay for many things with cash, although they are making it tougher all the time.

Anytime I get a check these days, I generally replenish my cash spending money supply. Don't even carry a debit card or know my PIN number.

I might have $1 or $2 in my pocket, but generally I don't have any cash on me. I prefer to use my credit card.

I carry $100. I'd fill it up about once per week, we keep some cash at home. If I have to go to the ATM each time, I 'll probably carry more (but I hate carrying around a thick wallet).

My wife carry our all the cash envelope for groceries, clothing, and kids allowance roughly around $800-$1200. Most of that are spent in the first two weeks of each month.

I carry usually $100 bucks first of the month which is my monthly allowance, except today I'm down to 20 bucks. I have to stretch this for 2 weeks.

$100. I've had the same $100 in there for about 2 months now. Just don't use it unless the progeny needs a 20 spot.

We haven't had this thread for a while.

I just checked. I've got $404. That's a bit more than usual. It's usually closer to $300 but some extra cash ended up in there after our yard sale a couple of weeks ago.

                  $30.

I rarely deal in cash at all. I don't even carry my ATM card with me (I never have). I still always try to keep $20 on my person. Not that like I have EVER needed it, but I am one of those people who needs to have a backup plan.

I have the extra $10 because my son just started some classes that they prefer you pay cash each time. It's kind of driving me crazy. !! (If he sticks with it I will start charging monthly). This is probably more cash than I have ever had to deal with, ever, so part of why it is driving me crazy.

Dang...you sound like my grandfather. He's dead but he used to carry a fat stack of cash in his wallet...$500+ at any given time. Never understood it. If he loses his wallet its bye bye cash money. He never used credit cards though.

If my wallet gets lost or stolen, the cash would be the thing I would be the least upset or concerned about. I'd be far more upset about my license, credit cards, and other troublesome-to-replace items.

I'm kind of surprised at the low amounts people carry. I mean, sure I've had to cover a few friends' lunch costs sometimes (and ask others for cash to cover mine), but we don't routinely carry such small amounts (it's accidental).

Cash is still used a lot. Many places are cash only (and that's not stopping customers, as I just got back from this very busy, cash only Ramen place with huge lines), and especially small tips everywhere. Oh heck, even the mall has valet parking.

Which reminds me of an interesting thing. Do you know what's the most useful denomination when we go to Hawaii? $5. Carry plenty on your trip there and you can thank me later : )

Right now it's $53 plus change, which feels high for me. I don't use cash often, but it doesn't increase the size of my wallet by much, so I figure why not keep some money in there.

The things that's ridiculous is how many gift cards I have in my purse.

Same here. Every time this topic comes up, I'm shocked by how many people respond with $0.

Here's an old thread of mind:

$200 because I just cashed a check. I carry that around for months because I pay for everything with a credit card for the bonuses. I have one doc that requires cash and I use it if I have lunch with a group or the kids need money
