  • Kenny, I wish my garage looked like that. I'd be thrilled. I hope someday to be that neat and clean and orderly.

    * Why should I pay for my daughter's education when she already knows everything?

    • Finally back to a small bit of this. Tossed 4 items of JUNK in the last 2 days. Prob will be more today as handyman was here this week fixing the powder room sink & toilet. I had to empty the sink cabinet and will clean it out and go thru everything. I did notice I had several packs of kitty litter tray liners so was able to scratch that off my shopping list.

      • In the midst of a combination of decluttering, cleaning and taking care of some household chores - they all blend together in my book.

I did my weekly sorting of mail, magazines and such in the kitchen. Much went into the recycling bin. Some went to my desk. Some went with my stuff to take to work tomorrow.

I cleaned the fish tank filters, swept and vacuumed the kitchen, scrubbed the sink, sprayed bug spray throughout the house and refilled the water cooler bottle.

        • While it's fun to go *picking* [garage sale-ing] with friends as a buyer, I dislike being the seller and listening to disparaging remarks. I got roped into a 4 family sale held Saturday and was surprised when my 'not used for 12 months' criteria garnered more than ten laundry basket sized bins of *merchandise* to sell.

In spite of Weatherman's prediction of sunshine, it was cold, rained intermittently. We didn't get the traffic we anticipated and only sold half. Friends were tired by 3:00 PM and we all shut it down. None of the others are willing to sell in today's sunshine nor available next weekend. I like my stuff so I'm trying to decide between putting it all back in cabinets or take it to the auction house that mostly sells household stuff. [Our condo board doesn't permit yard/garage sales primarily for parking issues. Every vote on this idea is soundly negative]

            • I took some books to the giveaway shelf at school today. Today I'm spending a couple hours decluttering my school files.

The garage has a floor? I wouldn't know about that. I suppose there is one down there somewhere.

                • Similarly Surprised

I've also found that my home office has a floor. Who knew?

                  • The four things I sold on ebay (a plate, a sweater, jewelry, and a toy) are now out the door.
I decluttered the closet a bit, but need to do more.

                    • While I suppose I should worry this is becoming my personal log, I did get a big bag of stuff out of the laundry room.

                        • Big Piles of Papers

Big piles of student papers went in the recycling today--actually into the recycle shredder at school since all names have to be off.

No worries. You shouldn't be the one upset. The rest of us who aren't posting should be upset. I know I haven't been doing as much as I'd like. I'm just too darn busy. That doesn't mean I'm not trying to stay aware and picking up here and there.

Just so you don't feel alone, last week we finally got the last of the Passover stuff back to the basement, spurred by the fact that a long lost cousin of my wife's was coming to visit. Sunday, I did 4 loads of laundry to deal with the grossly overflowing laundry basket in our room. All of that laundry was sorted and put away by day's end.

Keep at it. Your progress encourages the rest of us to keep at it on our ends.

                            • I would say that I think it is my cabinet. I know it may sound too literal but since I am not a woman, decluttering cabinets is not an easy job for me.

                              • Way to go on de-cluttering all. There are so many benefits to de-cluttering. You can find what you want, when you want it. You will have what you need, when you need it. You'll be more productive and less stressed. You waste less time and needn't feel bad ...'I know it's here, somewhere.' chaos changes to order.

jerrycates: to de-clutter a cabinet...any cabinet/area... grab a trash box or sturdy bag & 'donate' box, removing stuff grouping like items together. throw out anything broken, wrecked, stained, damaged, too little to use to be practical, no longer useful, expired.

If you have duplicates, keep the best but put useful items in a 'donate' box/bag which will be very much appreciated by someone thankful for your generosity. If there are items that belong to someone else, bag them for return. If you have stuff you haven't used for a year, do you really need it? Don't beat yourself up for making a mistake. Items that disappointed or didn't live up to hype are *sunk costs,* you won't get your money back by keeping it!

If items belong somewhere else, set them in a laundry basket to be taken to where they belong, when you've completed your project. Prime space in a cabinet is the area between shoulder and knee. Anything heavy is safer placed below waist level. Group like items together giving the most used items the more 'prime' space. Some things 'containerize well, for example we keep under-the-sink cleaning products in a cardboard, six pack holder.

If an entire cabinet is too much to tackle in time available, limit to one shelf or drawer at a time. the next day you can de-clutter the second shelf etc.
