  • Finally something to report.

I finally got back to doing some of this today as it is snowing (1” in 3 hours & still coming down) here. I hit up the living room/dining room area tables. 4 items went into the donate pile (NOTE: I do not take declutter credit until I actually do donate). Went over the multiple boxes of watches & jewelry I got when my Mom passed away. I tossed 17 watches (broken or needing $$$ batteries) and moved a working one into my stuff. DGD1 LOVES to play dress up and a bunch will go to her. Went thru a pile of old company benefit info (recycle all but 2011 stuff) and appliance books. Recycled the appliance stuff for gone stuff, filed the rest. Recycled an old phone book. Put away a pile of stocking stuffer type items I have either recently bought or did not give this year,

I do need to actually empty out my china cabinet and determine what I want/need to keep/adult kids can/will use. Prob need to wait until we see what happens w/DD2 selling & moving to a larger place (mental gymnastics???).

Went on line and paid all my outstanding bills (wanna bet I get more today???). Went to some sites/blogs I only go to 1x/week or less.
Pulled a recipe from my ‘to try’ pile. May make today. Or vacuum. Or I might do my hair and give myself a manicure. Or I might grab a nap. Or……

    • Gave away a coat and two pairs of gloves to the elementary school. Thought a school mate was in need of coat, turns out she was choosing NOT to wear her coat. Gave it to them anyway in case someone else is in need. My closet does look sparse!

      • My e-mail in box had gotten out of hand again. I topped out at 101 messages today. I was supposed to have a meeting tonight but it got cancelled due to snow, so I spent some time on the computer and got the in box down to 50 messages. Still some work to do there, but I got rid of half of them.

I also spent a little time in the basement and cleaned out two drawers of a dresser down there.

        • Guest Room closet

All the gory details are on my blog, but along with tackling that, I've freecycled two pairs of tights and a pair of DD's long johns. I have a favorite freecycler with daughters a bit younger than mine who always shows up!

          • Decluttered toys. Gave three big bags of them as they make up the bulk of our household clutter.

            • Tackling the 'to mend' pile. One shirt down, one to go. Then the sewing supplies can be put away.

              • Kudos creditcardfree, happy to learn someone still mended clothes. Great to pass down clothes to younger children. Three bags of toys will surely light up eyes of a whole group of children. DS used a 'snow day' cancellation to empty another two drawers. How wonderful to keep this thread going since D9/14!

                • Had a snow day today but I went to the office anyway. It was great. I was the only one there - very peaceful. I caught up on all my paperwork. By the time I left at noon, I had absolutely nothing left to do. That almost never happens. Of course, there will be a whole new pile of paperwork tomorrow but such is life.

This evening, I went through a bunch of stuff that had accumulated on my desk and cleared most of that away. It had gotten a bit out of hand again, especially because when DD cleans and has stuff she doesn't want anymore, she leaves it for me to decide what to do with it. That's fine with me, though, because it means she is decluttering, too.

                  • After being in the office yesterday and clearing away all the paperwork needing my attention, when I came in this morning, I actually had nothing to do, so I decluttered. I turned my attention to one of my desk drawers. I keep being reminded of the comment in Shrek about layers. I've worked on this drawer before since starting this process but somehow, I still found a ton of stuff to get rid of.

I have demonstration devices for several medications to teach patients how to use them. That's a good thing. However, for one injectable medicine, I discovered I had 4 placebo devices in that drawer. For one of the inhaled asthma meds, I also had 4 trainer inhalers. I only need one to use to teach patients. So the 6 extras went in the trash. Two other trainers for drugs we no longer use also went in the trash, along with a stack of chart stickers we don't use.

We have little medication lists for patients to carry in their wallets. They were scattered loose in the drawer. I piled them neatly and put a rubber band around them.

I put a bunch of papers in the recycling pile.

I also had at least 300 paperclips in the drawer. I kept a small supply and returned the rest to the front desk paper clip bin since that is where they are mainly used.

Finally, some forms that I do use regularly got moved from the drawer, where they covered over the drawer organizer, to the file drawer below where they are much better suited to stay.

                    • Odd but worth it

I sat in the bathroom with DD last night when she was taking a long bubble bath and wanted to talk.
I thought--hmm, I wonder what's in some of those bins in the vanity. One travel case had 12 very
old toiletries in it--at least 6 or 7 years old--Listerine, lotion, crud like that. I emptied them all thinking they were likely not so safe and threw the bottles in the recycling. They probably took up about 4 squares inches of area, but I'm glad they're gone.

It's been a good week for getting rid of clutter!

Cool. And great example of how one can declutter while doing something else. Nice job!

                          • I decluttered my purse contents since I switched to a new purse...old purse in the donate pile. I also went through one file drawer that is in my desk and shredded quite a few outdated items.

                            • Today several bags of junk left the basement including my ruined slippers and broken chicken picture. See blog if you really have to know more!

CCF: Thanks for the support. And nothing like a new purse to help you throw out all the crud that lived in the old one!

                              • DW decided she was going to attack her bedroom dresser today. She got a fair amount of stuff off of it and I dusted as much as I could when she was done. She also went through some drawers and a bunch of DD's old school papers. While she was doing that, I cleared off a lot of stuff from my dresser, too.

The clutter goes on and on but each time we tackle an area, things get a little better. Still plenty to do, but slow and steady wins the race.
