  • Had another no drive, no gas, no spend day Tue. Stayed home & packaged up meal size portions of Sun's cookathon. Then cleaned up th kitchen.

I live in an area w/only a drug store in walking distance. Therefore, a no drive, no gas day is 98% likely to be a no spend day.

    • It appears interest in this thread has died dwon again. I will post today but unless more people join in I will let it die out.

Another thing I have done for quite some time:
When I freeze small portions of an item I do it in the CHEAP dollar store sandwich bags. I then put several in the larger, $ freezer bags. The freezer bags stay clean & can be reused.

      9/28 No spend
      9/29 No spend
      9/30 no drive, no spend
      10/2 no drive, no spend

10/1 I bought 5+ lb of chicken leg quarters. Planned to make soup but the weather will be warm for several dayss so I froze. Probably will make over the weekend. That will also let me get to the cheaper produce store for soup veggies.

Today I will be driving a LOT. I am making my 1x/month trip to a GOOD charity resale shop and will hit an outlet store and a couple other places on that route.

      • Let's not let it die out!

Yesterday I cooked from the pantry....I made granola bars and banana chocolate chip muffins. Yummy stuff!

Didn't go anywhere but to take my daughter on her drivers ed drive. Actually she took me.

        • Not so frugal yesterday! I had to take dh to an appointment since he couldnt drive after. It ran way over and he didn't get out until 5:45. I picked up dinner since it was almost 6 and my planned dinner needed an hour to cook. I'll make that tonight.

I've got an appointment so I will take care of some business while I am on that side of town.

It is going to get pretty warm today so I opened all windows early this morning to let the cold air in. Funny weather. Almost 80 today but suppose to go below freezing tomorrow!

How do you do that? What's in it? A lot of that stuff from the store has phenol in it.

I'd like to know how you made it also.

                • Cold/cough remedy...

                  1/4 t cayenne
                  1/4 t ginger
1 T apple cider vinegar (Braggs brand is best)
                  2 T water
                  1 T honey

Disolve cayenne and ginger in water and apple cider vinegar by shaking in a jar. Add honey and shake again. Take 1 T as needed.

                  • Bought a gas card and saved .10/gal. Priced matched my groceries and used coupons saving $46.00. Hubby bought strip steaks on sale for $3.99/lb.

                      • Strip steaks were bought at HEB.

                        • I am in metro Chicago, no HEB here. Our strip steaks are at best $6-7/lb. Have not had one in ages.

Sat was again a no gas, no spend day.
Made a large pot of chicken soup.

I pulled all the cooked meat off the bones & have a large bowl (about 28 oz) to break into individual serving packages.

Thanks I will try that out! Hopefully no one gets a cough but odds are someone will over the winter.

                            • Love the cold/cough remedy. Thanks for sharing. The frugal thing I did today was not to spend a dime...I walked everywhere I needed to go and didn't even start my car. I love those days when I can do that!

                              • Yesterday was a NSD. Haven't had one of those in a while...

Also I have read that if you put Vick Vapor Rub on the soles of your feet (apply rather thick), and put socks on it helps the coughing fits that happen when you lie down for the night. Haven't tried this personally, but worth a shot.
