If you need to run errands over the long weekend, you might be wondering: Are banks closed on MLK Day 2026? Martin Luther King Jr. Day is a federal holiday that honors the life and legacy of the civil rights leader. In 2026, it falls on Monday, January 19. As with most federal holidays, government offices and banks will be closed.

Are Banks Closed on MLK Day 2026?

Yes. Most banks and credit unions will be closed on Monday, January 19, 2026, in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day. This includes major institutions like:

  • Bank of America
  • Wells Fargo
  • Chase
  • Citibank
  • PNC
  • Truist
  • U.S. Bank

Credit unions and regional banks typically follow the same federal holiday schedule.

Can I Still Access My Bank Account?

Absolutely. Even though physical branches will be closed, you can still manage your finances online:

  • Transfer funds
  • Pay bills
  • Deposit checks via mobile app
  • Check balances

  • Sunday: Closed (except select TD Bank and supermarket branches)
