How To Make More Money From Selling Your Home

October 16, 2025 by Susan Paige

Selling your home is a great way to get a massive amount of cash into your bank account as quickly as possible. However, it is also something that can leave you out of pocket if you get it wrong.

Fortunately, this post is here to help. We look at some of the ways you can make money from selling your home, even if you are a complete beginner and have never done anything like this before.

Hire A Skilled Photographer

One of the best ways to make more money from the sale of your home is to hire a skilled photographer. You want someone who really understands the ins and outs, and who is willing to put in the time to make it look its best.

Fortunately, you can find skilled photographers pretty easily these days for real estate photography. There’s several in most towns, so you’re bound to find one.

List At The Right Price

It might sound obvious, but it is also critical to list at the right price. Organizations, like Bluefield Realty Group, can help with this if you need guidance and direction.

Remember, even if it is a buyer’s market, you still have power. Adding to the price you want to charge creates an “anchor” point that adjusts the purchaser’s expectations, encouraging them to pay more, even if they are getting less property for the money.

Stage It Properly

If you can stage the property well, that’s also a good idea. You want to ensure that you have all the pieces in the right place so that it really looks the part. It shouldn’t just look like you tidied up. Everything about the property should scream at buyers that it is a place they can also live.

Staging takes time and can be complicated, but it is also worth it. If you don’t know how to do it yourself, plenty of professional companies can do it for you.

Upgrade The Important Spaces

You also want to upgrade all the important spaces. These include areas like the kitchens and bathrooms. Buyers care more about these than other parts of the home since they cost the most to change and rip out, and they are highly connected to the resale price. Even small investments improving and staging these areas can go a long way.

Time The Market

It might sound strange, but it is also a good idea to time the market when selling a property. If you can flog it at the right time of the year, you are likely to make more money.

The best time to sell is late spring or early summer. Most people want to move at this time because of the nice weather, and they are willing to pay a premium.

Offer Small Perks

Finally, you can try offering small perks, like a warranty, to make it more likely that you’ll make the sale. If you know there’s nothing seriously wrong with the home but your buyers don’t, this strategy can work really well.
