How To Save Money While Taking Care Of Your Health

July 17, 2024 by Susan Paige

Many people say that the biggest barrier they face when switching to a healthy lifestyle is financial. After all, not only do we have to contend with rising healthcare costs, but a recent study found that healthy food is twice as expensive as unhealthy food (on a per calorie basis).

However, that does not mean that it’s impossible to stay healthy on a budget, you simply need to be a little more proactive in your approach.

With that in mind, here are some excellent ways in which you can save money while taking care of your health and wellbeing.

Take action quickly when feeling unwell. When you are feeling unwell, it is important that you take action as quickly as possible. After all, this means that you’re able to better manage our symptoms, or gain access to the treatment you need, both of which can minimise the amount of time you need to spend off work. This means that you don’t lose out on crucial income. For example, you can ensure that you Stay safe with WELL life™ Flu and Covid At home test kits.

Make use of free resources. It is no secret that the cost of healthcare in the US increases year on year, but there are still plenty of free or low-cost resources that you can utilize during this time. For example, if you are struggling with your mental health, you can contact free helplines or charties such as the National Suicide/Crisis Hotlines (dial 988).

Shop at local markets and stores. One of the easiest ways to transform your health is to transform your diet. However, many people do not consider this to be a viable option when you think about the costs associated with making this switch. Luckily, there are many ways in which you can save on groceries. For example, instead of visiting chain supermarkets (where the prices are often unjustly inflated), shop at local markets and stores instead. While this may be a little more time consuming, it’s often much cheaper and you’re helping the local community to thrive.

Exercise for free. While there are usually some costs associated with exercising, such as buying the right clothing or signing up for the gym, there are plenty of ways in which you can workout without spending a single penny. For example, instead of enrolling in an expensive gym class, check if there are any similar classes on YouTube that you can follow along from home. Not only is this a great way to slash the costs of building up a sweat, but it’s also perfect for beginners who may feel a little anxious when working out alongside others.

You can also get fit for free by increasing your daily step count. Even as little as ten minutes a day of walking (at a decent pace) can make a huge difference to your overall health, whether you’re trying to lose weight or heighten your endurance. Ideally, you should aim to hit 10,000 steps a day!
