How To Travel Cheap & Still Have Fun

June 18, 2024 by Susan Paige

If you are trying to travel as affordably as possible, you are not alone. Most of us are keen to do that, especially with how prices have gone with a lot of travel related items in recent years, and particularly since the pandemic. However, when things get more affordable, you often run the risk of the quality decreasing, and the experience can get worse. So if you are trying to have the best time possible, you might find yourself feeling that you need to do a little bit of a balancing act.

However, it’s possible to have a great time traveling on a budget, and in this post we are going to look at how you might be able to do just that. Here are some great ideas you might want to try out on how to travel relatively affordably and still have a great time.

Save On Transportation

One of the main ways you might want to try and save money is by simply saving on the transportation out to wherever you are going. If you can manage that, it’s going to mean that you are much more likely to find yourself in a position of being able to save a lot of money, but you are not making any practical difference to the kind of experience you have, because you’re still going to the same place to have the same planned experience.

As you may already know, there are quite a few ways to save on transportation, and it might be easier than you think. If you are going by plane, you can save money by booking ahead as early as possible, or perhaps by making sure that you are opting for budget flights. You should also consider, wherever possible, traveling during off-peak seasons. Not only will this save you money on your flights, but also your accommodation and other main costs too.

Find Vouchers For Accommodation

One of the best things you can do to save on accommodation, in fact, is to make use of vouchers. These are quite easy to come across, and they can help you to save so much money while still staying in the same places you were going to stay in anyway. So it’s definitely a good idea to think about this, and you might find that it is going to make a huge difference to how you approach things in general. It’s something that can really help you to save money in the long run and in quite a simple way.

You can find vouchers online, through travel agents, or sometimes in newspapers. This is the kind of thing that is worth looking out for and you should find that you can make a huge saving this way. Once you have saved on the accommodation and the transportation, you are going to find that the whole travel experience is already a lot more affordable, so this is absolutely something that you will want to think about all in all.

Take Some Entertainment With You

Another main expense that you will find you have when you are traveling is the entertainment. You do need to make sure that you are able to have a lot of fun, of course, and this is going to feature heavily in your budget. However, not every single moment has to be a unique experience that costs a lot of money. You might also be able to have some times during your trip when you are simply keeping yourself entertained in much simpler ways.

With that in mind, be sure to take some affordable entertainment with you. That can be as simple as taking a deck of cards, so you can play the occasional game of solitaire for instance. If you have something like that with you, you’ll find that you can often keep yourself entertained without spending lots of money, and you can make long trips a lot more bearable and easier as well. So all in all, this is going to be hugely important for you to consider, and you should make sure you are thinking about it.

Pick Your Destination Carefully

If you are not too bothered about where exactly in the world you go, then you can be a little bit clever about the choice and make a huge saving here too. If you know what kind of experience you want to have, and you are happy to have it pretty much anywhere, then you can simply choose to go to a place where it is generally more affordable. If you manage to do that, you’ll save not only on accommodation but also on flights as well as eating out while you are there and so on too.

You’ll want to be careful, of course, to ensure that you are actually going to find somewhere you enjoy. But in truth, picking your destination carefully is one of the simplest and most powerful ways you can bring the cost of your travel down and ensure that you are still going to have a great time. So it’s well worth thinking about.

Compare Restaurants

Often when you are abroad, it can be tricky to know where to eat. And you might often find that you simply get drawn into one place or another based on how it feels, or because it happens to be closer to your hotel for instance. However, you will very often profit if you manage to spend some time comparing the different restaurants in your area, and this is something that you are going to find really important to do, as it is going to help you a great deal.

If you do that, you’ll save money and often get an even better experience than you were going to, so it really is something that you will want to think about.

Those are the main ways to travel for less money and still have a great time, so make sure that you are thinking about these things.
