On New Year’s Day, many stores will be closed to observe the actual holiday. Some have reduced hours. However, there are still many larger retailers that do open with special sales or promotions to kick off the new year.

According to Wide Open Country, as well as some of our additional research, the following retail stores will be open on New Year’s Eve 2023:
- Barnes and Noble. According to their website, they’ll have regular store hours on NYE.
- Bass Pro Shops. Although a few locations have different plans, most Bass Pro Shops will be open 10 – 6 on NYE 2023.
- Cabela’s: This is another hunting/fishing/camping retail store. If you need to get those types of items, then you’re in luck on New Year’s Eve. Cabela’s will open at 9 am. They’ll close at 6 pm.
- Cost Plus World Market: This store doesn’t change its hours for NYE.
- Home Depot. Typically the store closes early on NYE. However, it will be open.
- JOANN. Get your fabric and crafts from 9-6.
- IKEA. If you are a big IKEA fan, then don’t get it; they’ll be open on New Year’s Eve.
- Lowe’s. Location hours may differ but the store should be open for the day.
- Marshall’s. Get your shopping done between 9:30 and 6 at Marshall’s stores on NYE.
- Michael’s Stores. They’ll be open from 9-6 for all your crafty needs.
- PetSmart. You should check your location for hours but this pet store will be open on New Year’s Eve.
- Target: Most Target stores will be open on NYE 2023 until 9 pm. Note that that’s the normal closing time for some stores but early for other locations.
- Tractor Supply. I’ve never heard of this store myself. However, if it’s a store you frequent, then you’ll be glad to know that Wide Open Country says they’ll be open from 8 – 6 on NYE.
- Walgreens: Most Walgreens stores will be open on NYE. However, this varies by location. Additionally, the hours vary a lot by location.
- Walmart: If you love to shop at Walmart, then you might already know that they’re typically open regular hours on New Year’s Eve.
Retail Stores Closed on New Year’s Eve 2023
If you tend to prefer shopping at small stores and independent businesses instead of large chain stores, then you might find that you need to do your shopping before New Year’s Eve. Of course, some may be open. However, considering that the holiday eve is on a Sunday and that many small stores close for it anyway, we wouldn’t bank on your favorites being open.
