Is Target Closed on Labor Day 2023?

August 30, 2023 by Tamila McDonald

is target close on labor day

Monday, September 4, 2023, is Labor Day, a federal holiday that marks the importance of the American workforce. Many people end up with a day off from work due to the event. While some may use it for spending time with family and friends, others may choose to tackle some errands instead. If you wanted to shop during the holiday, you might be wondering, “Is Target closed on Labor Day 2023?” If so, here’s what you need to know.

Is Target Closed on Labor Day 2023?

No, Target is not closed on Labor Day. Instead, the company uses its regular operating hours for its retail store locations, allowing customers to handle their shopping and take advantage of various Labor Day discounts.

In most cases, Target stores follow a very similar operating schedule. The majority open at 8:00 am and close at 10:00 pm local time. However, specific locations may have slightly different hours. If you enjoy shopping early in the morning or late at night, it’s wise to check with your local Target store to see precisely when customers are welcome.

Does Target Have a Labor Day Sale?

Technically, Target always has a selection of products available at discount prices. Ahead of Labor Day, you can expect deals on items classically used during the summer, as the retailer is trying to reduce their stock levels on products that are going out of season. You might also see lower prices on items that are popular during the Labor Day holiday.

If you want to see where you can save, it’s best to check the Target weekly ad. Usually, sales run from Sunday to Saturday. As a result, you may find some Labor Day-related discounts in the flyer that starts the Wednesday before the holiday.

Target Holiday Schedule 2023

Most major retailers – including Target – don’t close on the vast majority of holidays. However, most shut their doors at least a few times a year.

Essentially every Target in the United States follows the same holiday schedule, which is set by the corporate office. As a result, aside from unexpected closures relating to issues like inclement weather, utility outages, or technical problems, they’re all closed on the same days.

Here is an overview of the Target 2022 holiday schedule:

  • Easter – Sunday, April 9, 2023 – Target stores are closed
  • Thanksgiving Day – Thursday, November 23, 2023 – Target stores are closed
  • Christmas Eve – Sunday, December 24, 2023 – Target stores are open but close early
  • Christmas Day – Monday, December 25, 2023 – Target stores are closed
  • New Year’s Eve – Sunday, December 31, 2023 – Target stores are open but close early

It’s critical to note that Target was open on Thanksgiving Day before the pandemic. While that issue has calmed, Target has maintained that decision ever since. However, the retailer could reverse course at any time. If they choose to do so in 2023, expect official word close to the holiday.

Do you appreciate that Target isn’t closed on Labor Day, or do you not plan on using the day to shop? Do you think it would be better if retailers gave their employees days off more often? Share your thoughts in the comments below.
