Are Banks Open on Easter Sunday 2023?

April 5, 2023 by Jenny Smedra

Are Banks Open on Easter Sunday 2023?

With Easter just around the corner, you’ll want to ensure your baskets are ready and all your peeps are in a row. And if you are planning celebrations, you’ll want to take care of all the preparations beforehand. This includes those last-minute errands so you can enjoy the day with friends and family. However, you may be surprised that although it isn’t a federal holiday, many businesses and offices close for a long weekend. This can be inconvenient, especially if you aren’t aware of their holiday hours. So if you’re wondering are banks open on Easter Sunday 2023, here’s what you need to know.

When Is Easter 2023?

Easter isn’t a federally recognized holiday but still an important day for many Americans. This year, Easter Sunday falls on April 9th. However, the observance of the holiday celebrations also includes the preceding Friday and following Monday. For this reason, many schools, businesses, and offices close on one or both days.

Are Banks Open on Easter Sunday 2023?

For those wanting to know are banks open on Easter Sunday 2023, the answer is no. As a general banking rule, financial institutions don’t open on Sundays. Most only operate six days a week, so the banks would still be closed even if it wasn’t a holiday.

A few such as Bank of America, PNC Bank, and TD Bank have limited Sunday hours. But these will likely close on Easter Sunday as well.

What Are Banking Hours for Easter Weekend?

It’s safe to assume that you won’t be able to visit any bank on Easter Sunday. However, you should also be aware that some locations will also close on Good Friday. If you live in one of these states, Good Friday is recognized as a state holiday:

      • Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Hawaii, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisiana, New Jersey, North Carolina, North Dakota, Texas, Tennessee

Like federal holidays, this means all state offices, courts, and most businesses and schools will close in observance of Easter. Although banks will close Friday, April 7, they will return to business as usual the following Monday.

Banking Holidays for 2023

Planning around the holidays can be tough. To help you get ahead of them, here is the complete list of federal holidays for 2023. On these days, nearly every bank closes its doors and gives its employees the day off.

  • New Year’s Day: Monday, January 2 (observed)
  • Martin Luther King, Jr. Day: Monday, January 16
  • Presidents Day: Monday, February 20
  • Memorial Day Monday, May 29
  • Juneteenth: Monday, June 19
  • Independence Day: Tuesday, July 4
  • Labor Day: Monday, September 4
  • Columbus Day: Monday, October 9
  • Veterans Day: Saturday, November 11
  • Thanksgiving Day: Thursday, November 23
  • Christmas Day: Monday, December 25

Although the brick-and-mortar locations close on these days, you will still have access to automated and online banking services. So, you can still withdraw money, deposit checks, check balances, transfer funds, and schedule payments. However, they may not be processed until the next business day.

TD Bank is a notable exception since it remains open on some federal holidays. Keep in mind that hours vary between branches and states. Your bank may have shorter or limited hours during holiday weekends. Your best option is to check with your local branch for their hours to help you plan ahead.
