Is Target Open on Christmas Eve 2022?

December 7, 2022 by Tamila McDonald

Is Target Open on Christmas Eve 2022?

For many people, Christmas Eve is a time to gather with family and friends to celebrate the holiday. However, many people also need to run errands, allowing them to get last-minute gifts or secure missing ingredients for a Christmas meal. As a result, it’s common to ask, “Is Target open on Christmas Eve 2022?” If you’re wondering whether the retailer is open, here’s what you need to know.

Is Target Open on Christmas Eve 2022?

Yes, Target is open on Christmas Eve 2022. However, many locations will close early on Christmas Eve to give employees more time with their family and friends. In most cases, Target stores will shut their doors at 8:00 pm on Christmas Eve, which is about two hours earlier than usual for most locations.

Similarly, delivery and in-store or curbside pickup at Target will close early on Christmas Eve. Pickups can’t occur after 8:00 pm on Christmas Eve, and the last delivery window could be 7:00 pm, giving drivers enough time to retrieve and deliver items before 8:00 pm.

Target Holiday Schedule

As a major retailer, Target doesn’t typically close for many holidays. However, that doesn’t mean the stores are always open. Instead, Target recognizes a few holidays with closures, giving employees a chance to spend the occasions with their family members and friends.

Here is an overview of the holidays when Target closes:

  • Easter
  • Thanksgiving Day
  • Christmas Day

Along with the holiday closures outlined above, Target stores also close early at least two days each year. The retailer has reduced shopping hours on both Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve, so keep that in mind if you need to shop on either of those days.

It’s also important to note that Target stores used to open on Thanksgiving Day, with shopping hours usually beginning in the early evening. However, the retailer changed course during the pandemic and has continued to close on Thanksgiving ever since. As a result, Target may open on Thanksgiving at some point in the future, though it’s also possible that the closure will remain part of the holiday calendar indefinitely.

Do you normally head to Target on Christmas Eve, or do you try to avoid shopping on the day before Christmas? Do you think more stores should close early or entirely on Christmas Eve, or would that be problematic? Share your thoughts in the comments below.
