5 Proven Ways to Make Extra Money in 2022

September 29, 2022 by Susan Paige

In today’s uncertain economic climate, where inflation rates are sky-high worldwide, many of us find ourselves strapped for cash more than ever. The good news is that our digitized space allows for more and more ways to score extra money, be it from getting rid of unwanted stuff or picking up a side gig.

This post will explore some of the most legit and uncomplicated ways of earning supplemental income in 2022. So, let’s dive in.

1. Passive Income Opportunities.

Some of the most effective ways to generate cash on the “background” are the following:

Investing.

Granted, you have to have money to invest, but a money-savvy adult with a savings account should consider moving some of that income into a High-Yield Savings account, for example. In addition, many lenders don’t require a minimum amount to be invested or have maintenance fees.

Rent a spare room on Airbnb.

If you have a spare room, you could get a roommate, which would instantly cut your housing expenses in half. But for those not willing to sacrifice their privacy over money, renting a room to visitors on weekends through apps like Airbnb or Vrbo might be a suitable compromise. Additionally, you can rent out:

  •  Your bike or a car
  •  Extra storage/parking space in your garage
  • Tools
  • Musical instruments.

Sell your photography on Shutterstock or Getty Images.

If you have a penchant for snapping cool photos, why not monetize it? Once you register on the platform and license your work, you get paid every time someone downloads it. Of course, it helps to find your niche and appeal to specific audiences, but practice shows that documenting real-life events is always relevant and can be picked up by bloggers and news outlets.

2. Freelancing.

Sites for freelancers (Upwork or Fiverr) have tons of opportunities to make extra money. For example, you could start picking up gigs as a blog writer, take on data entry projects, or offer virtual assistant services. Freelancing can be an excellent opportunity to earn extra income while maintaining a flexible schedule.

3. Tutoring.

It may sound intimidating, but you can still offer tutoring services, even if you don’t have a degree in that field. For example, you can help students from abroad practice their English with you. Or you can start a book club on Patreon and offer a paid membership for bookworms worldwide to discuss literature while practicing their conversational skills in a foreign language.

Alternatively, if you are a fit person who works out regularly, you might be well suited to offer training sessions both in person and online. Of course, having active topical social media pages like Instagram and TikTok would help you get the word out, but it is not mandatory. Instead, start small by asking friends and acquaintances around if they know of someone who is considering a personal trainer but is also on the budget. Consider offering a free first session. And even if it does not work out, you are not losing anything because you still get all the health benefits from working out, just with a partner this time.

4. Reselling Unwanted Technology

Getting rid of a slightly outdated laptop, smartphone or tablet helps you clean out the clutter and make a few dollars along the way. And unlike the olden Craigslist era, now you don’t really have to do much to resell your used gizmo. For example, sites like Gadget Salvation will do all the work for you. All that the seller is required to do is:

  • Identify their gadget’s make and model.
  • Calculate an estimate based on the device’s overall cosmetic and functional condition.
  • Send it in and wait to get paid.

Most technology trade-in sites will give you an instant online dollar offer and pay shipping expenses. Once they receive and verify the condition of the item you are selling, which is anywhere from 24 to 48 business hours tops, your payment gets issued. The best part is that you get paid real money and are not offered a trade-in credit to upgrade like with Apple Trade-in or Best Buy. For example, Gadget Salvation pays its customers via instant payment apps like Cash App, Venmo, Zelle, or PayPal. But they also issue paper checks, if that’s your preference.

5. Grocery Shopper or Car-Sharing Driver

Becoming an Instacart shopper is a great way to make extra money after work. Most personal shopper platforms allow their shoppers to pick their own work hours, making it easier to work around your lifestyle. The same goes for Uber or Lyft driving. The one caveat is that you must own a car and have a perfect driving record.

In Conclusion

Overall, there are plenty of opportunities to earn additional income in 2022. Of course, you could start a blog, take a babysitting gig or become a dog-walker. But we think it’s unwise to pass up on many opportunities the internet offers nowadays. So don’t discount the safety of a passive income. Or the chance to clean out your drawers from older gizmos to resell for cash. The possibilities to make extra money are nearly endless, but the five uncomplicated ways described in this article are something we tried and can get behind!
