Here’s What You Should Know About National Lazy Day 2022

August 8, 2022 by Vicky Monroe

National Lazy Day 2022

We could all use a break every now and then from our busy schedules and endless to-do lists. A recent report from Indeed found that 52% of all workers are suffering from burnout—a 9% increase from pre-COVID surveys. If you’re feeling stressed out and exhausted, you deserve to take a breather! Luckily National Lazy Day 2022 is right around the corner, which is the perfect excuse to lay in bed for a day and get the rest you need. Here’s everything you need to know about National Lazy Day so you can make the most of it.

Here’s the Scoop on National Lazy Day

National Lazy Day falls on August 10th every year, which means it’s coming up this Wednesday. Although National Lazy Day isn’t a federal or official holiday, it’s still worth celebrating by taking it easy and binge-watching your favorite shows.

Although we’d love to tell you more about the history of National Lazy Day, the truth is that no one knows who started it. All we know about the origins of the holiday is that it was created sometime in the 2000s. The running joke is that the founder was too lazy to step forward and take credit for creating this awesome event. We wish we knew who to thank for the reminder to slow down and enjoy a relaxing day of self-care!

Unofficial Anthem

Another interesting fact about National Lazy Day is that it has an unofficial anthem called “The Lazy Song” by Bruno Mars. In the chorus, Bruno Mars croons, “Today I don’t feel like doing anything, I just want to lay in my bed.” We can definitely get on board with that! Don’t forget to blast this song on Wednesday to celebrate National Lazy Day 2022.

How to Celebrate National Lazy Day

Although we don’t know who founded National Lazy Day, we know why they created it—to give everyone permission to take a much-needed rest day. So the best way to celebrate the holiday is by not doing much of anything!

Allow yourself to stay in your sweatpants or pajamas instead of getting dressed up. Lounge on the couch or in bed and let your to-do list slide for the day. Enjoy some of your favorite low-key activities like baking, drawing, or doing a puzzle. Focus on wellness and self-care and give yourself a chance to recharge your batteries.

After your lazy day, you’ll probably feel rested and ready to tackle your to-do list. Studies have shown that taking time off actually increases your productivity at work, so don’t feel guilty for taking a break.

Post Online with the National Lazy Day Hashtag

Another way to celebrate the holiday is to post a lazy day selfie using the #NationalLazyDay hashtag. Many businesses also post online about the holiday, so look out for social media posts from your favorite brands.

If you own a small business, National Lazy Day is a great opportunity to connect with your customers by posting self-care and wellness tips on social media. But don’t forget to schedule your National Lazy Day posts in advance using a scheduling tool so you can take a break on the holiday as well!

Being Lazy Isn’t a Bad Thing

Studies have shown that being lazy isn’t necessarily a bad thing, so you don’t have to feel bad about celebrating National Lazy Day. Laziness can actually be a sign of intelligence. People with high IQs spend a lot of time absorbed in thought, which can look like laziness from the outside. But all that thinking can lead to some pretty creative ideas, which is why lazy people are thought to be more innovative and successful.

How are you celebrating National Lazy Day this year? Let us know in the comments section below!
