When Is New Year’s Day 2022?
2021 is rapidly coming to an end. New Year’s Eve is Friday, December 31, 2021. Therefore, this year, New Year’s Day 2022 is on a Saturday. That’s something that you’ll definitely want to keep in mind when asking yourself what’s open and closed for the holiday. After all, if a store or service is already closed every Saturday, then it doesn’t make a difference whether it’s New Year’s Day or not. On the other hand, stores like Costco are open on Saturdays. Therefore, it makes sense to ask Is Costco open on New Year’s Day?
Is New Year’s Day or Eve The Big Holiday?
This is a question that comes up every year. Most of us celebrate New Year’s Eve as the big holiday, right? That’s when we go out to parties, toast with champagne, watch the ball drop. Of course, technically, the ball drops right at midnight, marking the transition from New Year’s Eve to New Year’s Day.
That said, it’s a bit different when it comes to actually defining the holiday. Banks, the stock market, post offices, libraries and other similar places all close for 11 federal holidays throughout the year. At this time of year, people ask if that means they’re closed for New Year’s Eve, New Year’s Day, or both.
New Year’s Day is the official holiday. If both New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day fall on weekdays, then those types of places will stay open on New Year’s Eve (sometimes with limited hours) and close for New Year’s Day. It’s kind of nice, when you think about it, starting the year with a day of rest!
So, Is Costco Open on New Year’s Day?
That said, not everyone wants to kick off the new year with rest. Some people get into their new exercise routines right away. Other people continue to visit family. And yes, some of us want to do some shopping. So, is Costco open on New Year’s Day for those people in the latter category?
As aforementioned, New Year’s Day is the holiday. So, unfortunately for the shoppers, Costco closes for New Year’s Day. It’s their first big holiday closures of the year. Throughout 2022, they will also close for Easter, Memorial Day, Fourth of July, Labor Day, and Thanksgiving Day. As you can see, they don’t always close for big holidays. For example, although they close for Memorial Day, they’re open on Veteran’s Day. So, it’s no surprise that you find yourself unsure about whether or not they’re open on different holidays.
And of course there’s that confusion about whether stores close on New Year’s Eve or New Year’s Day. In fact, that does play a part in Costco’s holiday planning as well. There are two days per year when they close early: Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve. So, although they don’t specifically celebrate New Year’s Eve, they close at 6, which is a couple hours earlier than normal. Then they’ll keep their doors shut until normal morning hours on Sunday, January 2, 2022.
Shop Online at Costco on New Year’s Day
Thanks to the Internet, we don’t have to limit ourselves to in-store shopping. Obviously, Costco has a website. Moreover, they offer a lot of deals and discounts through their website. It’s easy to shop for everything that the store has to offer using their website. So, if you want to stock up on groceries for the new year, hop online and order them. Likewise, stock up on winter clothing and accessories, household goods, and more. Heck, treat yourself to that thing you wanted for Christmas that wasn’t under your tree.
Costco Delivery Options
One of the great things about using Costco’s online shopping system is that you don’t have to go the warehouse. Instead, the items are shipped directly to you. And Costco has more than half a dozen terrific shipping options.
Like many of the stores you shop at online, you’ll probably use standard delivery most often. They’ll ship through UPS or USPS or FedEX. However, there are so many alternatives including curbside delivery, in which you set up a specific delivery time, and threshold delivery, in which they’ll make sure your package ends up in a garage or under an overhand as requested.
When you order big items from Costco online, you definitely want to take advantage of their special shipping options. First is Room of Choice Delivery. You ask them to bring your new couch to the living room or your new mattress to the bedroom, etc. Need even more help than that? Select White Glove Delivery for someone to actually build/install your new items. For appliances, choose help with connection hook up and also ask about their haul away program for your old stuff.
