What Is Giant Food Stores?
If you’re not familiar with Giant Food Stores, then you probably don’t live on the East Coast. Specifically Giant Foods Stores are located in Pennsylvania, Maryland, Virginia, and West Virginia. Therefore, if you spend time in those states, then you might get your groceries there. It’s a small grocery chain of about 150 stores that launched almost 100 years ago.
In 2020, they rebranded with the tagline “For Today’s Table.” The idea is a recommitment to “the notion that the world is a better place when families come together at their table and connect over a meal, no matter where their table may be.” As a result, they aim to simplify shopping so that you can get in and out quickly and back to your family, which is what matters. It couldn’t matter more than at the holidays!
In addition to groceries, some Giant Foods stores have gas stations. Additionally, many have pharmacies. They also launched GIANT delivery a few years back.

Giant Food Stores’ Holiday Hours
Like many grocery stores, Giant Foods is open during the holidays. However, they keep limited hours as compared to their normal hours. Grocery stores often do this to offer the best to both their customers and their employees. Customers get the chance to come in and get last minute grocery items even on holidays. However, employees still get to go home early to be with their families.
As of today, we don’t know the official Giant Food Stores’ holiday hours for Christmas. However, we do know what changes they made to their hours for Thanksgiving. We estimate that those changes will be approximately the same for Christmas shopping. Those changes were:
- All stores were open at 6 am and closed at 4 pm.
- Curbside pickup, however, closed an hour early at 3 pm.
- Gas stations also opened at 6 am and closed at 3 pm.
- Most pharmacies were open from 9 am – 1 pm.
- Delivery services were only available for morning hours. You obviously book your deliveries in advance.
As aforementioned, those were Giant Foods 2021 Thanksgiving Hours. The list their holiday hours as notifications on their site. Therefore, they should update the site soon with their Christmas and New Year’s hours. However, we expect both to be similar to those stated above. Call your local store or ask in advance to confirm about the hours at your preferred store location.
