Whether you’re just looking for some quick entertainment or want to have an exciting adventure, staying on budget is usually a must. Luckily, there are some great options that won’t cost you a dime. If you’re looking for free things to do in Wyoming, here are some of the best no-cost attractions the state has to offer.

Town Square – Jackson Hole

If you’re looking for a nice place for a stroll, as well as some unique art installations, head over to Town Square. The spot is mainly known for its four antler arches that frame four corners of the space, each of which is a sight to behold. Plus, they make for excellent photo opportunities, allowing you to capture a unique moment during your trip.

However, there is far more to enjoy. There are wide, open grassy areas that are perfect for a quick picnic. Plus, the site is home to a variety of festivals and events during the year, many of which are free to attend, and roaming entertainers are commonly found throughout the year.

The Town Square is also in the middle of shops and restaurants. Many of the establishments have rustic western exteriors, giving the area a fun vibe.

Wyoming State Museum – Cheyenne

If you want to learn about Wyoming’s history, the Wyoming State Museum is an excellent option. It features a wide range of exhibits, covering everything from prehistoric times up through the present day.

The destination is also appropriate for all ages, making it a great choice for families. Along with traditional exhibits, there is a hands-on section for children. It’s an ideal approach to get active kids engaged in learning.

Along with free admission, the museum also offers free parking. That means your entire visit can be completely no-cost.

Chief Joseph Scenic Byway – Cody

If you want some spectacular views, traveling the Chief Joseph Scenic Byway offers up plenty. It offers up 46 miles of amazing landscape, running from Cody, Wyoming, to Cooke City, Montana.

Along the way, you’ll get exceptional views off the Yellowstone River, Heart Mountain, and Beartooth Peak. You’ll pass by beautiful creeks, stunning gorges, and plenty more. Plus, wildlife commonly roams through the area.

There are stops along the way that give you a chance to leave your vehicle and take in the sights. There are even some areas that are perfect for a picnic. Just make sure you stop for fuel before you begin the drive, as there aren’t many modern amenities along the way.

Castle Garden Petroglyph Site – Riverton

If you’re looking for a unique stop, head to the Castle Garden Petroglyph Site. There, you’ll discover magnificently weathered sandstone formations that resemble castle turrets and towers. On some of the stones, there are carved petroglyphs, a form of historical Native American rock art.

The site is well-maintained, offering easy-to-travel paths to the stones. There are also benches for resting, footbridges, and a large parking area.

Other improvements are also on the horizon, including interpretive panels that help visitors learn more about the site’s history and significance. Just be aware that some of the roads can be challenging during some parts of the year, particularly if you don’t have a four-wheel-drive vehicle.
