  • Provide Proper Support to The Mattress – Make sure that you buy a mattress according to the surface of your furniture. Not every platform supports every mattress, so you should be aware that you should buy this mattress for this type of bed. For a foam mattress you are advised to use a solid platform bed and for a spring mattress you can use a spring box.
  • Avoid Jumping on Bed – Jumping on bed is neither safe for you nor for the mattress. This puts a lot of pressure on the mattress due to which it might sink. Also, jumping on bed puts a lot of force and weight on the bed which can damage your mattress. Another thing is that the frame or the box spring is not designed to bear excess pressure and weight, which will ruin it with jumping. You should caution your children to do so.
  • Do not Eat on Bed – If you really want to make your mattress last longer then you should avoid eating on bed. You may think that everything will be fine but accidents can happen anytime.   • Clean Your Mattress – It is really important to clean your mattress at a regular interval. You can vacuum your mattress at least twice or thrice a year and that would be enough. You can also hire professionals to get your mattress cleaned. Dust mites multiply in warm and humid places. These dust mites can cause allergy so you should vacuum your mattress regularly and this way you can get rid of mites and your mattress will also last longer.
  • Clean Everything that You Notice – It is possible that even after possible precautions the stains can occur but instead of ignoring them you should get it cleaned immediately. If it dries up then things will not work and your mattress will look really dirty which is not good. These stains put a bad impression and moreover you should clean it so that it goes well for a long time. You can use any stain remover or home remedies to get it cleaned. Also, you can use cleaning agents dish wash liquid along with baking soda and a few drops of hydrogen peroxide and you will see the magic trick of these chemicals. When you apply this mixture, the stains are removed completely.
  • Say No to Pets – It is understood that you love your pet and you love spending time with them. However, when your pets sleep on the mattress, highly allergic dander, pests and germs can contaminate your bed that could be fatal for your health. So, you should avoid your pets on your bed. You can spend daytime with them, but inviting them to sleep with you could be a little risky.
  • Use Effective Tips While Moving the Mattress – When you move your mattress to another place make sure that you wrap it in a plastic cover. Using a plastic cover will save it from dust and dirt. This can keep your mattress safe from getting dirty. You can also deodorize your mattress using baking soda. Sprinkle baking soda on the mattress and leave for 24 hours for best results. Sunlight also has sanitizing power so once in a while place your mattress in sunshine. 

Buying a mattress is an investment and therefore you need to take certain measures to extend the lifespan of your mattress. Although on an average a mattress will last for 5 – 10 years, with the above-mentioned tips, you can make it last longer.  Also, when you invest on a quality mattress you can further extend its life. You cannot keep the mattress forever, but by taking necessary steps to keep it clean, you will have a healthier sleep environment.
