Here are 5 Class Action Settlements You May Be Eligible For

January 30, 2020 by Tamila McDonald

class action settlement

On occasion, you may receive a notification telling you that you might be eligible to participate in a class action lawsuit or settlement. Typically, this occurs when there’s a chance that you were negatively impacted by a company. And many others were as well. This leads some plaintiffs to come together in an attempt to secure compensation. Once the lawsuit is deemed a “class action,” others can get involved without much inconvenience. However, you might be eligible for certain class action settlements even if you don’t recall being directly notified. Here are five that you may want to check to see if you qualify.

1. Rack Room Shoes, Inc.

If on April 2, 2014, or after, you received unsolicited text messages from either Rack Room Shoes or Off Broadway Shoes, you might be eligible for compensation. Those affected may have the ability to choose between two forms of payment. The first is $5 in cash. While the second is a $10 voucher that gets posted to their Rack Room Shoes rewards account.

The deadline is approaching quickly. It’s set for January 31, 2020. If you might be eligible for the class action settlement. Complete a claim form as fast as possible. Otherwise, you won’t receive compensation and aren’t legally able to file a separate suit, either.

2. CooperVision, Inc., and Bausch & Lomb, Inc.

If you bought certain brands of disposable contact lenses during the period between June 1, 2013, and December 4, 2018.  You might be eligible for compensation. Both of the companies settled over accusations of violating antitrust laws. You have until January 31, 2020, to submit your proof of claim and potentially receive cash.

There are also Litigation Classes for claims against other companies. However, those differ from settlement classes.

3. TD Bank Class Action Settlement

TD Bank customers who were charged insufficient funds overdraft fees between August 16, 2010, and June 20, 2011. They might be eligible for funds from a settlement. Additionally, TD Bank customers who were charged an overdraft fee between August 16, 2010, and June 26, 2019. This is related to a one-time debit or ATM transaction, may also qualify.

Overdraft fees related to Uber or Lyft services between December 5, 2011, and June 26, 2019. Along with any overdraft fees between March 8, 2013, and June 26, 2019, could similarly qualify for compensation. Anyone making a claim must submit the form by February 7, 2020, to join.

4. Amalie Oil Company

Anyone who purchased XCEL Premium Motor Oil during the period between December 1, 2014, and October 11, 2019, might be eligible for a settlement payment. The value of the compensation varies, falling between $2 and $20 depending on the exact circumstances.

Those who wish to participate have until February 12, 2020, to file a claim. Those who do not will not receive compensation from the class action settlement account.

5. Obesity Research Institute, LLC

If you purchased Lipozene, a weight loss pill product, between August 10, 2012, and October 28, 2019, you might be eligible for compensation. The company behind the product – Obesity Research Institute, LLC – reached a settlement after being accused of misrepresenting Lipozene’s effectiveness.

You could receive up to $15 per unit in cash (for a maximum of four units or no more than $60). Proof of purchase is required for the full payment amount. Otherwise, claimants may be eligible for up to $7 without proof of purchase, under penalty of perjury should a claim be determined to be false.

Should You Join a Class Action Lawsuit?

Whether you participate in any class action settlements is a personal decision. If you are eligible, you need to review the rules for becoming a participant, as many involve waiving certain legal rights or to take particular kinds of action on your own in the future.

Review all of the associated notices and claim form documentation. If you are eligible to participate and comfortable with what is outlined, then you may wish to join. However, you also have the option to decline to participate or do nothing, both of which create different results. Choose the legal approach that’s best for you, above all else.
