Banks Closed on Sunday
It is important to note that you should still call ahead or check online to confirm your bank’s hours. Some locations may not open, depending on demand. It is certain that the following banks will be closed on Sunday though:
- JP Morgan Chase
- Citigroup
- HSBC
- Bank of New York Mellon
- SunTrust
- State Street
- Capital One
- BB&T
- Toronto-Dominion
- Royal Bank of Scotland
- Regions Financial
- Fifth Third Bank
- ING
- KeyCorp
- Northern Trust
- Bank of Montreal
- Bank of the West
- Allied Irish
- Comerica
- Zions Bank
Even though most banks and credit unions are closed on Sunday, that doesn’t mean that you can’t do basic banking transactions. You have two options that will allow you to do many banking transactions even on Sunday. The ATMs allow for a variety of transactions to be done. The other option is logging in online and doing your banking through the bank’s or credit union’s website. You can’t do all types of banking from these two alternatives, but you can do most of the basic banking transactions.
It’s important to remember that if you do use an ATM or website, some transactions won’t fully post to your account until the next business day when the bank or credit union opens. This is usually not an issue, but something to keep in mind.
Why Aren’t Banks Open on Sunday?
The plain and simple reason that banks aren’t open on Sunday is that it’s not cost-effective for them to be open. This is especially true now that ATMs and bank websites can handle many of the most common banking transactions that customers want. The one bank that does offer Sunday service, TD bank, uses this as a way to differentiate itself from all the other banks.
