Chris Cornell’s Net Worth

May 19, 2017 by James Hendrickson

Chris Cornell's net worth
The death of rockstar Chris Cornell was announced this week. Cornell, who was the lead singer for Soundgarden and (less recently) Audioslave, allegedly committed suicide by hanging. The 52-year-old vocalist had quite the fan base though. In fact, social media as well as radio stations across the United States have been honoring Cornell since the news broke.

Cornell had a successful career that has ended in a tragic way but what has he left behind for his wife? What is Chris Cornell’s net worth and what will happen to everything now?

Chris Cornell’s Profile:

Net worth in 2017: $60 million
Profession: Musician
Age: 52
Source Of Wealth: Music career
Residence: Seattle, Washington
Citizenship: U.S. Citizen
Marital Status: Married
Education: No formal education past high school

Chris Cornell’s Career

Christopher John Boyle (also known as Chris Cornell) was born on July 20, 1964 in Seattle, Washington. Growing up Cornell listened to music constantly. In fact, between the ages of nine and 11 he listened to the Beatles religiously.

In the early 1980s Cornell got his first taste of performing music himself. He was a member of The Shemps, a cover band based out of Seattle. In 1984 he began Soundgarden. Cornell was on drums and vocals while two of his former band members from The Shemps filled out the rest of the stage. The band rocked on until 1997 when Cornell decided to focus on his solo career.

The now-aging rock star was making a name for himself but only stayed in the solo game for a few years. In 2001 he joined a new band, Audioslave. Audioslave performed and toured together until 2007 when Cornell took a few more years to focus on a solo career before re-joining Soundgarden in 2010. Soundgarden was on tour at the time of Cornell’s death on March 17, 2017.

Cornell was essentially a rock-n-roll star for 33 years. So, how much money did he make?

Chris Cornell’s Net Worth

Chris Cornell's net worthChris Cornell’s net worth (at his time of death) sat at about $60 million. Cornell was married to Vicky Karayiannis from 2004 until his time of death. His wife, who has issued an official statement regarding the death of her husband, and children will be inheriting his riches.

The bulk of Cornell’s fortune was hard-earned cash. He had to perform, sell tickets and albums to make the money he did. Luckily for Cornell, that never seemed to be an issue. Cornell and Soundgarden were able to get into the Seattle grunge scene just as it was becoming popular and, once he had a fan base, Cornell continued to sell albums for years to come.

As previously stated, Cornell’s wife and children will be getting what’s left of his fortune. This includes any material assets left behind, including property. Cornell’s will has not yet been read so it is not yet clear how his assets will be dealt out. Sadly, because Cornell’s death has been ruled a suicide, any life insurance policy that he had will not be available to his family. However, Cornell seems to have left them well taken care of.

Cornell’s death came to a shock to many this week. The 52-year-old rockstar worked hard his entire life to get to where he was. Now Chris Cornell’s net worth will continue to benefit his wife and kids.
