Walmart Rotisserie Chicken Review

May 1, 2017 by Amanda Blankenship

There are some days throughout the week that you may just not feel like cooking. It happens to everyone. On these nights you usually wind up ordering pizza, running through the drive-thru, or ordering another takeout. Normally these meals run double (maybe even triple) the amount you’d normally spend on a meal.

My budget-friendly fix to this once-a-week “I don’t want to cook” issue was found in Walmart rotisserie chicken. Found in the deli of most Walmart locations at an extremely reasonable price, Walmart rotisserie chicken has helped me get past my occasional dislike for cooking and allows me to maintain my grocery budget. But how good is the rotisserie chicken offered at Walmart?

Walmart Rotisserie Chicken Review

Some people are a bit stand-offish when it comes to the hot items in the deli but I can assure you that Walmart rotisserie chicken is a great and consistent product. It has become part of my weekly grocery list (usually eaten the night I go grocery shopping while I meal prep the rest).

One of the reasons I love it so much is that the chicken itself has a great taste. The meat stays tender and moist and they come in a few different flavors (I’ve had a lemon pepper and traditional so far). Best of all, it doesn’t break the bank!

How much does Walmart rotisserie chicken cost?

Many people are under the assumption that you pay for convenience when you buy already made items like rotisserie chicken from the deli. That, however, is not the case. In fact, with Walmart rotisserie chicken, you are actually saving money. Walmart rotisserie chicken is sold to customers at the low price of $4.98 per chicken. Occasionally they have larger-sized chickens priced at $6.98. To purchase a raw chicken similar in weight and cook it yourself would cost you up to $5 more (depending on the sales).

How many meals can you get out of a Walmart rotisserie chicken?

For the low price of $4.98 you can get away without cooking for TWO nights. Yes, two. Well, that’s if you’re only feeding yourself and one other person. If you are feeding a family of four I would expect one Walmart rotisserie chicken to feed your family for a single night.

On the second night I usually make chicken tacos by shredding the chicken and buying taco cheese, hot sauce and tortillas and any other taco fixings I desire. It makes for two easy meals!

Is Walmart rotisserie chicken healthy?

As with most things, as long as you control your portion size, Walmart rotisserie chicken is fairly healthy. It contains 170 calories per serving and 17 grams of protein. It also has a number of vitamins, only 11 grams of fat and one gram of carbs. So, if you decide to add Walmart rotisserie chicken to your weekly grocery list you won’t be breaking the bank or your diet.

All in all, Walmart rotisserie chicken surprised me. I’m oftentimes skeptical of already-made products but Walmart truly surprised me with their rotisserie chicken. Now it’s become something I can’t live without.
