What is Shudder?
It’s possible that you haven’t heard about Shudder yet. I just came across it while scrolling Facebook a few months ago and then again while perusing my Amazon Prime channels.
Shudder is a relatively new streaming service for the horror film fans out there. On the streaming service you’ll be able to find all types of scary movies. You can see Blockbuster hits like “Chucky” as well as independent horror films from around the world. The collection you’ll find on the streaming service has been gathered by horror film aficionados.
Like any other service, Shudder comes at a cost. But, is it worth it?
Shudder Review
Personally, Shudder has proven to be worth it for me. If you like to watch horror films or you’re like me and some of your all-time favorite movies are scary (“The Shining” and “Amityville Horror” for me), Shudder is probably for you! You’ll also get to explore and discover new horror films through the streaming service as well – all for only $5 per month.
Quality of Films Offered By Shudder
According to Shudder’s website, it is the only horror-focused channel out there (great for people like me). The streaming service is also backed by AMC (giving the quality of the films offered by the company more merit). If you choose to sign up for Shudder services you will get a selection of cult classics, independent films and Blockbuster hits. There are also new films added weekly so the content won’t get stale.
How Many Films Does Shudder Offer?
Currently Shudder offers about 800 films through their streaming service. You are able to search for specific films through the site or the app if you’re looking for your favorite scary movie. As mentioned above, Shudder will continue to add new content weekly as well so you’ll never run out of new horror films to watch.
Other Commonly Asked Questions

- How can you sign up? You can sign up for Shudder services through the company’s website or through the app (if you’re signing up on Roku or Amazon Prime stick).
- Can you request specific titles? Shudder does allow its members to make requests for certain films. You can do so on the website.

Is Shudder Worth It?
Now that you know what Shudder is and what it has to offer, is Shudder worth it?
I think so. If you’re a horror film fan like I am Shudder is great. You’ll be able to see some of your favorite movies without too much hassle. Shudder also makes the subscription worth it by adding new titles regularly and taking requests from its members. If you’re not really into scary movies though, the service may be lost on you.
Take Advantage of the Shudder Free Trial
The good news is is that, like most streaming services, Shudder offers a one-week free trial. During the week, you can decide whether or not you’d like to continue the service and you can cancel at any time. If you choose to continue the service you’ll be charged $4.99 per month or $49.99 for an entire year (saving you about 16 percent).
You Can Get Some Shudder For Free
If you don’t want to add another bill to your monthly budget, don’t worry. Shudder has some free services to offer as well. Shudder.tv, one of the services offered by the horror-focused channel, streams live on the Shudder website all day long. You won’t be able to choose what you’re watching because it’s modeled after a traditional television channel but you will be able to get your horror fix for free.
All in all, Shudder’s services are worth the $4.99 a month (to me). If you’re a fan of horror you’ll probably love it too.
Have you tried Shudder? What was your experience?
