March 16, 2017 by Amanda Blankenship

Jeff Sessions' net worth
“Saturday Night Live” has really been sticking it to the Trump Administration since the team took office in January. Some of its more infamous skits have had Donald Trump played by Alec Baldwin and Jeff Sessions played by Kate McKinnon.

Sessions has been in and out of the news for a number of reasons (none seeming to be positive). He’s been a politician all of his adult life and it seems he’s going to continue to stay in the spotlight during his time in the Trump Administration. You’ve got to wonder how much money politicians like him make. So, what is Jeff Sessions’ net worth?

Profession: Politician

Jeff Sessions’ Career

Jefferson Beauregard “Jeff” Sessions III was born in Selma, Alabama on December 24, 1946. He grew up in the small town with his family. His father owned a general store and later a farm equipment dealership. Sessions is the first in his family to become involved in politics.

After high school Sessions went on to earn his Bachelor’s degree from Huntingdon College in Montgomery, Alabama. During his time at Huntingdon he was an active member of the Young Republicans group on campus and was also student body president. This led him to earn a graduate degree from the University of Alabama School of Law. Once he graduated from U of A in 1973, he entered a private practice in Mobile. He also served as an Amry Reserves captain in the 1970s.

In 1975, Sessions started his career as an Assistant US Attorney in the Office of the US Attorney for the Southern District of Alabama. In 1981, President Ronald Reagan called for him to be named US Attorney for the Southern District of Alabama and he held that position for 12 years. His office presided over a number of high-profile cases, including a case regarding African American voter fraud in Alabama in 1985.

Sessions was elected Attorney General of Alabama in November 1994 and just two years later was able to win a U.S. Senate seat for the state of Alabama. Sessions’ controversial stances on gay marriage seemed to be the underlying them of his first Senate term. He was reelected in 2002, 2008 and 2014.

As you likely know, Sessions has been named the US Attorney General by President Donald Trump and will serve as Attorney General throughout Trump’s presidency. All of this experience led Sessions to where he is now. So, what is Jeff Sessions’ net worth?

Jeff Sessions’ Net Worth

Jeff Sessions' net worthWhere politicians are concerned it is hard to get an exact dollar amount when it comes to net worth. The Trump Cabinet is estimated to be worth nearly $11 billion in total, the most wealthy Cabinet in history. Jeff Sessions’ net worth contributes about $7.5 million to the overall net worth of the Cabinet.

Unlike many other politicians, however, there are some significant facts available about Jeff Sessions’ net worth. What remains to be a mystery is how quickly it grew in such a short period of time.

In 2004, two years into his second term in the U.S. Senate, Sessions’ net worth sat at about $2 million. Most of his wealth at the time stemmed form investments, specifically real estate. Just six years later (2010) his net worth had risen to $6.8 million (about $4.2 million higher than the median senator net worth in 2010).

So, Jeff Sessions’ net worth has been steadily rising for years, mostly due to his real estate investments. He also owns about $2 million worth of land and earns up to $1 million per year from the sale of timber on land he owns.

Not only will Sessions continue to earn cold hard cash for the timber he’s selling from his land and his other real estate endeavors but he will also make about $125,000 per year serving as US Attorney General alongside President Donald Trump. So, all in all, Jeff Sessions’ net worth will likely continue to grow during his time in the White House (and you’ll likely see more impersonations of him on SNL too).
