Robert Englund’s Career
Robert Englund was born on June 6, 1947 in Glendale, California. He began studying acting at the age of 12 and always dreamed of becoming a star. While in high school he attended Cranbrook Theatre School.
Once he graduated from high school he continued his education at UCLA. He remained there for three years before dropping out and transferring to Oakland University. Attending Oakland gave Englund the opportunity to train at Meadow Brook Theater. He had five successful years at the theater before he moved back to the West Coast in search of work.
He was considered for the part of Hans Solo in the 1977 “Star Wars” film. Instead, Englund wound up starring in another 1977 film called “Eaten Alive.” This role and the next few Englund landed left him being typecast as a nerd or redneck in most films.
This is, until he scored the role of Freddy Krueger in “A Nightmare on Elm Street” in 1984. The role of Krueger sent Englund spiraling into fame overnight. People loved watching him play the psychotic child murderer and burn victim.
His role in “A Nightmare on Elm Street” not only lined Englund up for sequels to the horror film (eight to be exact) but it also lined up other big roles for the actor. He played a significant role in the 1989 “Phantom of the Opera” and also had a role in “The Mangler” and “Maniacs.” Englund also played various roles on television.
“A Nightmare on Elm Street” led Englund to fame but is it what built his wealth? What is Robert Englund’s net worth and where did it come from?
Robert Englund’s Net Worth
The 69-year-old actor hasn’t been in the spotlight recently, however, he has been able to maintain a significant amount of wealth. Robert Englund’s net worth sits at a comfortable $14 million.
As previously stated, the majority of Englund’s cash came from his role as Freddy Krueger. His annual salary is estimated to be about $1.8 million per year and even higher during a year that he has steady work (a new film, especially a “Nightmare” film). Of the $1.8 million Englund earns per year just under $400,000 comes from endorsements made by the actor.
While Englund hasn’t been directly in the spotlight for years he hasn’t stopped working. In fact it has just been announced that Englund will be putting on the face of Freddy Krueger once again for a documentary in 2017. He will also star in the film “Echo of Evil” this year.
In the past four years Robert Englund’s net worth has grown nearly $6 million so don’t count on the actor’s wealth (or his career) disappearing any time soon.
