What is Mariah Carey’s Net Worth?

January 5, 2017 by Amanda Blankenship

Mariah Carey's net worth
Pop star Mariah Carey’s name has been in the news recently (and not for her talent). Carey’s name has been slung through the mud because many critics believe she’s been lip syncing for years. Some may even believe that Carey never had any raw talent at all and is unable to perform outside the studio. With the controversy surrounding whether or not she is truly the talented singer she’s always made herself out to be you may find yourself wondering, “what is Mariah Carey’s net worth?”

Mariah Carey’s Profile:

Net worth in 2017: $520 million
Profession: Singer/entertainer
Age: 46
Source Of Wealth: Singing career
Residence: New York, NY
Citizenship: U.S. Citizen
Marital Status: Divorced
Education: Harborfields High School

Mariah Carey’s Career

Mariah Carey was born on March 27, 1970 in Huntington, New York. Her mother was an opera singer and voice coach while Mariah was growing up and at the age of four she turned to music for comfort. For much of her young life Mariah sang and her overall goal was to become a pop star.

In high school Carey began waiting tables to support her dream of a career in music. She was able to pay rent and support her music career on what she made at the restaurant. Her big break was soon to come though.

Soon Mariah befriended singer Brenda Starr who introduced her to Tommy Mottle, the head of Columbia Records at the time. By 1990 Carey had rose to fame with the release of her debut album “Vision of Love.” Since then she’s released 14 albums, many of which have singles that have been featured on the Billboard Top 100.

Mariah has won five Grammys, 19 World Music Awards, 11 American Music Awards and 14 Billboard Music Awards during her career. Carey also received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2015.

Over the years the “We Belong Together” singer has created a substantial fan base as well as a substantial amount of wealth. But that leaves two questions to mind, “what is Mariah Carey’s net worth and how did it get that high?”

Mariah Carey’s Net Worth

Mariah Carey's net worth
Mariah Carey’s net worth sits at a very pretty $520 million (higher than Beyonce’s). Of course her 14 hit albums have a lot to do with her monetary success but Mariah has also done a number of things to keep herself financially stable.

Like with many singers, Mariah Carey has found out ways to make money from other sources. In 1999 she made her motion picture debut in a film called “The Bachelor.” Since then she’s played minor roles in movies here and there.

Unsurprisingly, Carey has also endorsed a number of products (as many entertainers do). In fact, it is safe to say a majority of her overall net worth is due to her endorsements with companies like Intel Centurion PCs, Pepsi, Motorolla and Elizabeth Arden.

Outside of her singing, acting and endorsement careers Mariah Carey has also been a bit of an entrepreneur. She’s created her own fragrance line called “M,” which earned her over $150 million. Additionally, she owns a luxury collection on Home Shopping Network and is an ambassador for Jenny Craig (a weight loss company). It is estimated that she earns around $100 million per year just from her non-performing endeavors.

The 46-year-old pop star’s career is likely to be slowing down in the future though. In recent years Carey has received nothing but criticism and skepticism surrounding her talents. Her cashflow may be greatly affected by the accusations of lip syncing and questions as to whether she’s as talented as she says she is. Only time will tell.

Do you think Mariah Carey has been lip syncing all along?
