August 18, 2016 by Amanda Blankenship

Will Smith's Net Worth
In 2007 Newsweek called him “the most powerful actor in Hollywood.” Will Smith is one of America’s most beloved actors. Since his debut on “Fresh Prince of Bel-Air,” Smith has been climbing his way to the top. Now the actor, producer and rapper has reached a net worth of hundreds of millions of dollars. How did he acquire such wealth over 30 years of being in the business?

Will Smith’s Profile:

Net worth in 2016: $250 million
Profession: Actor, Producer, Rapper
Age: 47
Source Of Wealth: Primarily acting
Residence: Los Angeles, California
Citizenship: U.S. Citizen
Marital Status: Married to Jada Pinkett Smith
Education: Overbrook High School

Will Smith’s Career

Willard Carroll Smith Jr. was born on September 25, 1968 to his mother Caroline Bright and father Willard Carroll Smith Sr. He lived and grew up in West Philadelphia. He went to Overbrook High School but never applied to college because he wanted to rap.

In the late 1980s Smith achieved his goal of becoming a rapper under the name “The Fresh Prince.” His rapping only gained a small amount of attention until he starred in the popular television series “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air,” which ran for six seasons from 1990 until 1996. Once “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air” went off the air Smith began to shift his career from TV to film. As a result, Smith has starred in a number of blockbuster films and is the only actor to have eight consecutive films gross over $100 million in the box office, 11 consecutive films gross $150 million internationally and eight consecutive films hold the number one spot at the box office.

He has been ranked as the most bankable star worldwide by Forbes. Just two years ago, 17 of the 21 films in which Smith played a leading role had accumulated gross earnings of over $100 million each worldwide. Five of those 17 took in over $500 million worldwide, bringing the total gross earnings of the movies in which he’s starred to $6.6 billion worldwide.

In addition to his success in the box office, Smith has also received Best Actor Oscar nominations for the films “Ali” and “The Pursuit of Happyness.”

Will Smith’s Wealth

You can’t really talk about Will Smith’s wealth until you’ve talked about the wealth he’s gathered through his family. His first marriage to Sheree Zampino was short lived. He married her in 1992, they had one child, Trey Smith, and the couple divorced in 1995. Trey and his father have been featured in rap music videos together and have also acted together in television shows. He married the gorgeous Jada Koren Pinkett in 1997 and the couple has been happily married ever since. They have two children: Jaden Smith and Willow Smith. Both Jaden and Willow follow in their father’s more musical footsteps. Jaden has also acted alongside his father in “After Earth” and “The Pursuit of Happyness.” Willow acted alongside her father as well in the film “I Am Legend.”

His greatest success where his wealth is concerned occurred after he starred in multiple action films like “Independence Day” and “Men in Black,” both of which did spectacular in the box office. After these two films, Smith’s average earning per film rose to $20 million. Not many producers are complaining about paying for him though with his track record in the box office. With each hit film, Smith’s net worth continues to grow. The actor just starred in “Suicide Squad,” which he is expected to make $30 million from.

Smith and his family reside in a 25,000 square foot estate in located in the Santa Monica mountain range. It is appraised to be worth approximately $20 million. The actor also owns four cars: Cadillac Escalade, 1965 Ford Mustang, Mercedes Benz GL450 and he also owns a mobile mansion. The mobile mansion, which Smith refers to as The Heat, has enough space for 30 people inside and rents for $9,000 a week.

There is no doubt Smith is wealthy in more ways than one. With a net worth of $250 million and no signs of slowing down, Will Smith will likely see more and more wealth come his way in the future, especially if he keeps bringing those blockbuster hits t the big screen!

Do you think Will Smith’s net worth will continue to grow?
