6 Side Jobs to Help You Get Out of Debt

May 27, 2016 by Alexa Mason

Side Jobs to Get Rid of Debt
One of the biggest problems people have when trying to save money is they have a lot of debt, from student loans to credit card balances. They have a main job, but it ends up going to their bills, and they don’t have any extra to pay down their debt. Taking on a second job gives you extra income, and you set your own hours. Here are six side jobs to get you out of debt.

Landscape Maintenance

Most cities are getting ready for spring, and that means homes need maintenance for their lawns and bushes. Do you enjoy trimming hedges and keeping flowers looking their best? You should look into having a side job specializing in keeping landscapes lush and beautiful. Set up a truck, make business cards, and ask around the neighborhood to get referrals.

Freelance Services

A benefit of freelancing is not only do you set your schedule, but you can work with many clients as your wish. Companies need people to design websites or write blog posts, but don’t want to take on another employee due to costs. They use freelancers for a short or long-term commitment and pay them very well. You aren’t stuck working in a cubicle, and you get extra cash to put away.

Customer Service

If helping people and talking to them about their problems is something you enjoy, working in customer service is a great side job for you. Not only are there positions in retail to communicate with customers, but companies have online representatives to take calls at any time. This part-time work is great if you have nights and weekends free.

Virtual Assistant

Are you an organizing whiz? There are lots of people in need of a virtual assistant. You would do any number of tasks, from updating Excel spreadsheets to booking airline and hotel reservations. It’s an easy way to make extra money. When you’re looking for jobs online, remember to check out the employee reviews of different companies, like this Assurant Review, to make sure they’re the right fit before you apply.

Sell Items Online

There are millions of items sold through online marketplaces such as eBay and Etsy. Being crafty with your hands is a great side income for you. The best part of selling online is not having to spend money on creating and maintaining a website. There are also websites that pay for your designer clothes, so rummage through your closet and sell items you don’t wear anymore.

Transportation Driver

Turn your vehicle into a money-making machine. There are lots of transportation services that allow you to use your car as a taxi and shuttle people to various destinations in your city. If you rather not use your car, take a part-time job driving a school bus. You help kids get to school and work either the morning or afternoon, freeing up time for you to do other things.

These six ways help you increase your income to pay off your debt faster. This extra money helps you stress out less about paying the bills and add extra money to your monthly payments. Give these a try, and watch your debt go down.
