10 Celebrities With Huge Money Problems

May 13, 2016 by Amanda Blankenship

Fame and fortune often go hand-in-hand. However, there are many celebrities that you would think would be financially well-off that are struggling. When it comes to money, they are just like the rest of us. Some of them are better at saving, while others are spend-happy. Although their incomes may be large, their expensive lifestyles will oftentimes deplete what they have (or had) in the bank.

Maybe no one ever taught them about saving. Maybe they simply couldn’t handle going from rags-to-riches without feeling the need to spend more money than they ever have on things that didn’t really matter (like shoes and clothing). These 10 celebrities are among the most monetarily-challenged:

Stephen Baldwin

The youngest Baldwin brother, Stephen, has a bit of a problem with racking up debt. In 2009, he filed for bankruptcy and revealed that he held more than $2 million in debt. Although he still stars on reality television shows and appears in the media at times, it seems the youngest brother spends more than he earns.

Brittney Spears

Pop star Brittney Spears has had the majority of her life’s problems in the spotlight. She got her start on the Mickey Mouse Club and then became a music sensation. However, after a minor breakdown (where she shaved her head, remember?) and divorce filings, her financial situation came to the spotlight. People found out that the singer didn’t save a dime of her money. Instead, she spent it on restaurants, entertainment and flashy homes. However, since she has been starring on the stage in Las Vegas, she seems to be getting her finances back under control.

Toni Braxton

Nicolas Cage

Nicolas Cage doesn’t necessarily have financial struggles as much as he struggles with simply spending the money he has. Cage owned as many as 15 homes at once, two dozen cars and an expensive jewelry and art collection. His current way of living is estimated to cost him approximately $30 million a year.

Donald Trump

Celebrities with Money Trouble
Bet you didn’t think you would see his name on this list! Donald Trump has actually faced a substantial amount of financial troubles himself. Although he gets to be in the spotlight plenty for his success in the business world as well as his success in the 2016 presidential campaign, Trump has filed corporate bankruptcy four times. However, he explains the filings away as “valid business strategy.”

Lindsay Lohan

Celebrities with Money Trouble
Like Brittney Spears, Lindsay Lohan grew up in the spotlight. Also like Spears, Lohan has had a hard time not spending all of her money. Because of her personal life, Lohan has not been able to land very many leading roles, which has led to substantial financial trouble because she has not adjusted her spending. When she faced jail time for drug charges, Lohan’s finances came to the surface. It seems the troubled actress likes to spend money on $30,000 Rolex watches and $100,000+ sports cars.

Dolce & Gabbana

Three years ago, Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana were convicted of tax evasion. According to Buzzfeed, the design duo failed to report about $1.3 billion to the authorities. However, the pair were found not guilty. They simply had to pay 343.3 million euros in fines, which was no big deal for them.

Marc Anthony

Wesley Snipes

Celebrities with Money Trouble
Wesley Snipes makes it on practically every list that involves celebrity’s money problems. Snipes is infamous for the parts he’s played in films. He is also famous for not paying his taxes. Authorities said he failed to pay over $15 million in income taxes and he was sentenced to three years in prison. Snipes says that he was made an example of and was unfairly targeted by the IRS.

Martha Stewart

Celebrities with Money Trouble
Just like Wesley Snipes, this list would not be complete without discussing Martha Stewart. In 2004, she was charged with insider trading (a big no-no). The federal government found her guilty on nine counts including security fraud and obstruction of justice. She served five months in a federal prison. Her finances took a huge hit and many television stations dropped her cooking shows after she was found out, not to mention the court fees and fines she had to pay.
