  • Any reason not to do 0% financing?

I’m getting lasik in Thursday. I’ve been wanting to do it for about 10 years. Eyesight leveled out about 4 years ago but I put it off because it’s it’s SO expensive, especially with astigmatism. Anyway, finally pulling the trigger. I had planned to pay out of pocket. Cost estimate came in right about what I was expecting, if not a little lower but the place I’m going has 0% interest for 12 months. I asked about a cash discount but no luck. Any reason not to spread the payments out to lessen the hit?

If you have the money (and you say you do), and the price is reasonable, then I see no reason not to.

One thing I would do is to put the money in a separate savings account and pay the bill from there. This way, you're keeping the cash, spreading out the payments, while effectively taking the money "off the books".

Pay with a 2% cash back credit card and be done with it.

As long as you don't mind the pull on your credit report, I see no reason not to do it. And you can still make the payments with your rewards credit card so you don't lose that perk.

It depends on the circumstance. If you're flirting with not have a large enough emergency fund...then do the 0% for 12 months.

If you're looking to sit that money somewhere else to earn interest...I personally wouldnt bother. Lasik is around $5kish...safe saving account earning 1.75% interest. Does that even amount to $80/year?

You could sign up for a credit card like this, citi premier card, earn 60,000 points after you spend $4k in 3 months. No annual fee for first year. You can then redeem those points for over $600 in gift cards.

These are the gift cards you can get: https://rewards.thankyou.com/b2r/Lan...ll&src=TYUSENG

Dont step over dollars to pick up dimes. Get a rewards credit card, charge the bill in full, pay off credit card, redeem points for gift cards, cancel credit card before 1 year is up.

Good call on opening a new card for better rewards. I hadn’t thought of that. My current card is only 1% cash back except on the quarters categories.

No prob...thats the best time to open one. When you have a large bill that will meet the spending requirement with one swipe. My wife and I each signed up for this card when we had hardwood floors installed. It wasnt cheap but it was nice to know we could get over $1k in gift cards to somewhat offset the price.

If you've got the money dedicated for this why not just pay if off, rather than having a bill hanging over your head. It's not like you are going to earn a bunch of money by financing this.
