  • What do you look forward to spending money on in 2017?

Assuming you've met all of your savings and giving goals.

I hereby endeavor to spend a lot more eating out. And no more cheap hotels. Once my wife has surgery next week I'm going to buy her a fur coat to celebrate. I'm going to try to give a ton more to my church and to people that are in need. I want to try to give away $30,000 this year. This year it was only about $14-15K I want to double it.

I'm also going to only put back about 7% of my income this year in savings. That's plenty.

No specific spending plans for 2017. Nothing to look forward to, as I can't really think of anything I want. Maybe buy an RV van to replace our van (it is nice to have my own toilet on long trips).

This year we donated about same as you (almost entirely in stocks). This is one benefit of stocks that I don't think gets mentioned much here. It is a way of tax savings and maximizing the donation amount.

I think next year we'll save more money because (1) I'm working and (2) can't take as many vacations.

      Fun question.

No surprise to the regulars that my answer is travel. We head back to Disney World in 14 days (my wife and I just got back from Florida a week ago Monday). We also have a trip planned for June out to Phoenix and the Grand Canyon.

Those are the only two I know about for sure but there will certainly be others. I'm probably going to Atlantic City for a few days in April for a conference. We want to take a long weekend and go down to National Harbor, MD. And there will likely be one more Disney trip at some point before our annual passes expire next December.

Traveling is what I look forward to spending money one, if my husband's work doesn't get in the way. If not, we may just save a bit more.

Not that its fun but its been 20 years overdue, we need to do some upgrading around the house. In fact we already started this month getting our downstairs painted. Next I'd like a new vanity for our first floor little bathroom and new flooring in our foyer and kitchen. There's more to be done but that'll do it for 2017, more to come in 2018.

We are doing the Phoenix/Grand Canyon trip in March. We haven't visitied our niece in the 4 years she has been out there, so now is the time.

I look forward to spending money on a smaller house and new clothes for myself. I'm pretty much down to rags at this point because I will not buy new clothes until I lose weight. I'm trying to get in shape for all the walking we will do in March, so I'm starting to lose some pounds.

I'm also looking forward to donating money this year. I donate goods to some charities and donate directly to people in need, but we haven't given money in a few years. I think I will split the money between a local pet shelter and Doctors Without Borders. Go local and global!

We may buy a new car but only if DH's current one dies.
We may replace some carpeting with tiled floors.

We'll need to buy a new microwave because our current one is gasping its last breaths.

I'm taking a trip to visit family and attend a basketball game (travel & game tickets already paid for) and at that game I'm going to treat my brother and myself to stadium goodies!

And then there's the slight possibility that we may buy a condo in a HCOLA.

I'm looking forward to spending money on nothing outside of my normal budget. No cars needed. No house repairs planned. If we can pull it off, we will be millionaires. Not as big a deal nowadays, but boy will that be a nice milestone.

I'm going to choose between Grand Canyon and Grand Cayman. As of now Grand Cayman has the edge.

How could I forget? We have a 3rd trip planned. For our 25th anniversary, my wife and I are planning a trip to Kentucky next fall to spend a week exploring the Bourbon Trail and other area attractions.

Of course Steve will appreciate this one. DISNEY!

However, it is still in the "talking about it" phase. With athletics and school, it is difficult to plan a trip at a time we would actually want to be there. July & August are just not months I want to walk around a theme park.

One family we socialize with went in November and another family is there right now. The more I hear people talk about Disney, the more I want to go back.

We went in August 7 years in a row due to DD's school schedule. It's manageable but certainly not ideal. This year, we went in July only because there was a special event we wanted to attend and it was awful. Record heat, the hottest month ever recorded. Over 90 degrees every single day of July coupled with 80+% humidity. It was far worse than any of our August trips.

The good thing about late August is that the crowds die down as in many states school is already back in session so it really isn't a bad time to go as long as you know how to plan around the heat.

Over the past year or so, we were there in November 2015, January 2016, July 2016, and December 2016. I'd say as far as weather and crowds, January was the best. We'll be back there in 14 days to do it all again.

I was not able to come up with the 1k needed to pull 8 of my dog's teeth (his first owner fed him all soft food the first 5 yrs of his life, now he has a mouthful of rotting teeth). I have the money almost tucked away and plan to get it done in January. I've never not had the money to care for my dogs so this was upsetting. It will be a relief to get it done

We have a fair amount of home improvement and remodeling to do still, so that's probably where a lot of money will be going in the coming year.

We have only gone in winter months but have not been there for many years. Our best trip was in early February. Our worst trip was arriving a couple days after Christmas. Weather was not an issue, but it was extremely crowded. Still something I am glad we experienced, but not planning to ever go back at Christmas again.
