  • Just made my last Student Loan Payment

I'm debt free except for my Mortgage

18 years remaining on a 20 year note.
I refinanced my original mortgage 2 years ago.
    Dropped from a 30 year to a 20 year

    Excellent. Congrats!
    Steve

    * Despite the high cost of living, it remains very popular.
    * Why should I pay for my daughter's education when she already knows everything?
    * There are no shortcuts to anywhere worth going.

Congrats! If I may ask, how long did it take for you to pay off your student loans? In hindsight, is there anything you'd do differently if you did it over for education or borrowing?

The only reason I ask those questions is since I'm back in school from 20 years ago, I definitely look at budgeting/balance of classes, tuition rates, and time more seriously. I have a greater appreciation for school, while trying to maximize my time as best as possible.
"I'd buy that for a dollar!"

The loans were from Grad School.
It took me just under 10 years to pay them back.
          Original balance was $46,000

If I could do it again I would have gone to grad school at a slower pace and cash flow more of the cost.
It took me 2 years to plow through the program.
Hind sight says that if it took me 4 years that things would have been just fine

combination of paying it off sooner and investing and saving more going forward.

congratulations! Really about longer in grad school? Some times it's worth the payback.

I was glad to finish up so quickly, but in the grand scheme of life, an extra couple years wouldn't have mattered all that much.
