The wife and I just opened Roth IRA accounts at the beginning of the year. Was just curious how many different mutual funds everyone invests in inside their IRAs?

How many funds

Roth IRAs are 100% FIDO Total Stock index fund
Taxable is 66% FIDO total stock, 18% FIDO Total International, 17% FIDO muni index
401k is 18% FIDO total stock, 65% Dodge & Cox income (only bond fund they have), 17% FIDO Total international
So, 4 funds total.
I set it up this way for tax efficiency and maximizing growth in Roth's.

I think all of our accounts hold either 1 or 2 funds each (not counting the cash accounts). I can't check right now as I'm at work.Steve
* Despite the high cost of living, it remains very popular.
* Why should I pay for my daughter's education when she already knows everything?
* There are no shortcuts to anywhere worth going.

I use FIDO funds because I use USAA for everything and I can buy FIDO funds with no fee. And my 401k is with FIDO.

Between the Roth IRAs, traditional IRA , taxables I have primarily 4 funds: rough estimate is 80% between VTSAX (total stock market) and VSIAX (small-cap value), 10% VTIAX (total international stock), 10% VBTLX (total bond market).
Current 401K is Fidelity which I'll have to review later."I'd buy that for a dollar!"

If you are interested in a stock that is very much like a mutual fund, invest in some Berkshire Hathaway (brk.b). Berkshire of course is run by Warren Buffet, and the company owns large portions of a variety of different companies - transportation, agriculture, mining, entertainment, even real estate.
Your expense ratio will be zero. Your only expense is the commission to buy your shares.
I'm not an equities investor, but if I was, I would be on the Warren Buffet team and no one else's.

Vanguard total stock market has had 0 during the time I have owned the fund which is what they strive for.
This makes a huge difference to me in tax planning because I am doing Roth conversions— unexpected year end capital gains could derail the whole thing very late in the game. (It is especially tricky since there are no more recharacterizations if too much was converted. )

I was fully invested in stock funds and I was invested by sectors - robotics, biotech, industrials, pharma, defense, retail and semi conductors. I am now out of the market but thinking of slowly sneaking back in.
i am wary of bonds esp as interest rates are projected to go back up - this is not a risk I want to take. I am also wary of oil stocks at this time. We'll see.

Yes but I am cautious after the recent drama between them, Guyana and Venezuela. Just waiting to see how things pan out before I buy them.
