$100/year with a groupon. I get it cut usually twice. Right now lack of time and money is driving this factor.

Woman with medium-length hair, here. I get 4 haircuts per year, which are $20.85 each (after tip), unless I can score a coupon, in which case I might get down to around $13 after tip. Plus about 4 bottles each of shampoo and conditioner each year. Unless you want to count the electricity to operate a blow dryer & flat iron? Those are both 7 or 8 years old.

I spend about $16/mo. This is for a haircut + tips. Typically go for a haircut once every 45 days or so.

I usually spent $20 per month for my hair and that includes the stuff that I used to style my hair.

I spend hardly anything on my hair. I have a $29 set of clippers and guards, and cut my own hair and my two boys hair. I'm not sure what DW and our two girls spend on their hair. They all get hair cuts about every six weeks, and I don't think they spend more than about $15 per hair cut.

I noticed something with my SIL (my wife's oldest sister). About 15 years ago she received a significant promotion and raise. All of a sudden she was getting frequent haircuts and stylings complete with highlights. I'm not sure what she was spending, not sure if it was in that $200 per month range or not, but it was a lot more than what she was spending before her promotion. Her husband had a good job, they had only one child, and I'm sure they could afford whatever it was that she was spending on her hair.

My SIL retired about a year ago. I've noticed that she's spending a lot less on her hair now. Her haircuts are very simple. You could say that her hair doesn't need to look as nice now that she isn't working, and that's probably part of it. But, my guess is that's it's a luxury she chooses not to have now that she is retired.

I went with my friend to the mall to get her hair done. I went shopping and she took well over an hour and said it cost about 130 and she tipped another 30 or so. This was 15 years ago and we were making less than $10 an hour back then. I was floored. But it does make a difference. I can usually tell who gets it professionally done, the difference is pretty striking in some cases.

As a guy I spend 20 every 6 weeks with tip.

I spend about $15 to $20 for a cut without styling every 2-3 months. I buy nice but cheaper shampoo and conditioner... but that's about it. I don't even use a hair dryer or other heating tool like a curling iron or straightener... I just let it dry into it's natural waves.

                Works for me!

                  There are 5 of us.

I cut most of our heads myself, including my own, but we do get a good cut every 6 months to a year.

$250 a year max would be my guess for all 5 of us.

That includes products (all store bought, not salon purchased), hair color every 6 weeks for me (home color), and cuts.

So, $50/year per person would be my guess.

That's crazy!! I spend $20 a month but I'm a guy. A few years ago I was styling my hair differently and had my sister cut it for free. Since I had the "messed up look" it didn't matter if she messed up or not.

With all that said, my wife gets her hair cut every 3 months and spends $50 a pop.

It's not very much. I'm a guy that chooses to have low-maintenance hair.

Clipper and shaver blades 1-2 times a year ($40) I cut/shave/trim it all myself.
                        Shampoo.

                        And that's it.
                        History will judge the complicit.

                          I'm a guy and cut my own hair every 3 weeks using the 1" guide using a Wahl hairclipper (not spam). I mention this particular brand because I have found that a good hairclipper makes a huge difference. I've been cutting my own hair for 25 years now. For the first 15 years I had another Wahl and it cut thru my hair like a hot knife cuts through butter. Then it broke so I bought a cheap Conair clipper. It would pull my hair and didn't cut as easily as the Wahl. I had used the Conair for a couple of years before it occurred to me that the Conair probably had a weaker wattage so the Conair just would not perform as good. So I bought another Wahl and the 2nd Wahl performed as good as the 1st Wahl. These were the prices I paid for the clippers;

                          1) first Wahl ($35)
                          2) Conair ($25)
                          3) second Wahl ($35)

Another observation of mine is that the Conair is notably smaller than the Wahl. The clippers also have a phillips head screw on the body of the clippers which is used to adjust the speed of the clippers. I tried multiple different speed settings on the Conair and never could get it perform as good as the Wahl. Remmington might be a good brand but I haven't tried that brand.

this thread made me think back to how long ive been vacuuming my head with a $100 flowbee. been doing it since 1996, almost 20 years, i think that flowbee has paid for itself

Yeah I have also spent this much money for hair straightening. I used to go to salon twice a month. It was very costly so I decided to invest in one of the best flat irons. Now I can straight my hair on my own without spending lots of money. You can also buy a good flat iron my friend!
