  • Good news, bad news

Bad news: a duck decided to commit suicide using my daughter's Jeep windshield. Dead on the center of the windshield at probably 70mph impact speed. Windshield is completely cracked everywhere, but did not shatter.

Good news: I actually established an auto repair fund in Feb. Although I could take this out of the EF, I can use the auto repair fund and then replace it.

Probably ops normal for most on here. Big change for me. I would have just put it on credit with no real way to pay for it.

    Life is good.

    Carry on.

You should check with your auto insurance. Many policies have a glass provision that covers the windshield with no deductible and no affect on your rates.

      * Despite the high cost of living, it remains very popular.
      * Why should I pay for my daughter's education when she already knows everything?
      * There are no shortcuts to anywhere worth going.

We have never had to pay for a new windshield. I think we have had them replace at zero cost.

Best news, DD wasn't hurt, thanks to laminated glass that doesn't splinter. Great having an auto repair fund plus an Emergency Fund to fall back on if needed. Won't to b wonderful if insurance covers the cost of windshield replacement?

If it's not repairable, it is subject to my deductible. And my deductible is $1,000, so out of pocket it comes.

Windshields are made not to shatter for this particular reason. Good job on the fund!

I just had my windshield replaced a couple months ago. I had to pay out of pocket. The way that my policy is, is that it is covered 100% if it is a chip. But, a crack like mine was goes to the deductible. So, I had to pay.

OP's policy may be different, so it would be worth checking into.

Sorry to hear about the duck, and I'm glad your daughter is OK.

                  Nice save with the EF
