    Re: DivaJen's Progress

I listed another bracelet and earring set this morning. I really like this one - but then, I am finding that I like pink more and more as I get older. (I think I first started realizing that as I was brainstorming color schemes for DivaTribe!)

    Current Balance: $93.32

Still thinking about what else I can do. I haven't used the rose quartz or amethyst yet, so maybe I need to put that onmy could-do list.

Last winter I sold two or three scarves in my store, plus one more to a friend. Maybe when cooler weather rolls around, I can explore some ideas in that department.

Not sure if this will fit you or possibly one of the other sellers on your site, but I thought I's mention it. One of the big sellers on online auctions in Japan are purses that have been made out of designer scarves (your last post reminded me) - I know this to be true because my wife is constantly looking at them.

There was one seller for about a year, but she was making so much money that there are now several sellers that do it. They take a brand name scarf (I can get it for you, but I have no idea of the brand off the top of my head) which I think my wife mentioned sells for about $50 and turn it into a hand bag. They add beads and other little things the highlight parts of the scarf pattern - and they usually sell for well over $100. I just took a photo for you to get a look:

My wife keeps saying that if she had the sewing skills, she would be doing this.

          Re: DivaJen's Progress

I listed another book at half.com this evening, so if it sells I'll pay the postage with the challenge money and include the earnings in my total. (I have $61 worth of books listed. Wouldn't it be nice if they all sold? )

I'm going to make a point of wearing my own handmade jewelry more often, as a means of advertising, and making sure I have plenty of DivaTribe cards on hand when I'm out.

I'm nearly finished with a pair of leg warmers for DD. If they turn out OK when all is said and done, I might entertain the idea of knitting up another two or three pair to try and sell. I need to learn to knit on round needles so that I can eliminate the need to sew up seams at the end.

I'm also going to remind myself to find out what opportunities there might be for me in terms of networking and such once DD is in her school and I get a chance to meet a whole new crop of parents and educators. DD's nursery school held a Mother's Day boutique. Perhaps this school does something like that as well? Don't know.

I tried sending an invite in DD's behalf - $25 for her, $10 for me (minus $1 I'm giving her to open the account), but I think it may have gotten eaten as spam at the server level. I'll try again later if it still hasn't come through.

I don't know if this would work at your daughter's school, but you could try hooking up with the PTA and sponsor a sale day, where 10% (or whatever) of your profits on a given day will be donated back to the school. You give them a code to use so you can keep their sales separate from your regular customers. You can also extend this offer to other schools in the area. Our school has a weekly newsletter that talks about PTA-related stuff, so if your school does something similar you can advertise it in there. We've done this with a local restaurant, and every fall, a MOTO Photo donates back the sitting fee for kids' Christmas pictures. Hope this helps...

I sent another invite and got it. I used $1 out of my ING account as a gift. DD got the $25 bonus, and I got the $10 referral bonus. Nets me another $9.

I've had another idea that I wanted to write down, so that I don't forget it. We have many thrift stores around here. I was thinking I could look for sweaters made of good quality yarn, unravel them, and knit or crochet up something new. It would be cheaper than buying yarn new, and as long as I'm careful about the sweaters I choose and wash them appropriately before taking them apart, I ought to be able to find good quality yarn to play with!

I unravelled a sweater to knit again once. It was a cotton sweater. The yarn lost its "twist" and was pretty much a pain to work with. But, I'd give it another shot. Let me know how yours turns out.

cercis - that's good to know. If I ever do try it I'll be curious to see if I have the same experience.

I finished a ribbon yarn child's poncho this morning. I need to get some good photos taken of it and then I will list it for sale. It cost me about $15 in materials - I have that written down somewhere. I told DD that if it doesn't sell she can have it.

I haven't been doing much except waiting to see if anything sells. I suppose I could try a few things on eBay - nicer name brand items of DD's that she's outgrown - but I doubt it would bring in all that much money. Something to think about.

                                Edited to add -

I have the poncho online now, in case anyone is interested in seeing it.
