Speaking of which... we have a washer/dryer that we mostly hate. They came with the house we moved into ~4 years ago and are from 2015, we think. I can't fault their reliability in general, but they are poorly designed. Front-loading doors swing the wrong way and can't be swapped. The auto-sense dry feature on the dryer is pitiful, unless you like damp clothing even when set to "char". The washer has one of those doom-timers where it says it has 2 minutes until end of cycle, but really means almost 10. The previous owner never bought pedestals for the machines. It's too late to spend the money now, but my next set will be raised to working height. Or maybe not, I may buy generic pedestals so the next set can use them too. The current clothes dryer is electric. IMO, natural gas does a way better job of drying clothes, and there is a hookup right there. With my luck these things will last another 10 years, but I'd really like to have a natural gas dryer again!
    History will judge the complicit.

I can't argue with that. Not knowing the age of the washer they gave away could be a factor. Personally, though, we still wouldn't just give away an appliance that was still working.

We've discussed charity in other threads and most everyone on the forum seems to do some form of charitable giving.
Why is giving away an appliance any different than giving cash, food, your time, etc.? A gift is a gift, and somebody surely appreciated it.

This is a much less jaded view than I had of "let someone else haul it off".

There is a dirt road near my home where people routinely throw out trash. It is seldom a washer or a stove sits out there for more than a week before someone hauls it off to the scrap yard for a quick $20.

That's an interesting way to look at it. We certainly donate things to charity all the time. I don't think we've ever donated something that we were still actively using, though, causing us to then have to go out and replace the item. But maybe that was their thought. Upgrade what they had and gift the old one to someone else.

I hate my laundry too it's mismatched and I wouldn't pick it. But it works and has been in the house sinec we bought it in 2015. it's still running. But one day.
