I am struggling with the idea of not having an id? My friend lost her iphone on vacation in Mexico. Out in the ocean...And if she had only had her electronic passport of id, I don't know what I would do. I certainly would never really feel comfortable only traveling with a virtual id. but I guess at 44 i'm too old? Someone whose 24 would even blink an eye? Or maybe they would as well?

I think going out/about in town with just your phone as primary payment or ID is one thing (if state-issued ID's on phones are a thing? I'm not even sure they are). Traveling overseas where a passport is needed is a different thing (if electronic passports were even accepted...as far as I know, you still need the physical book/card).
To that point, what if you lose your physical wallet, passport, or those things are stolen on vacation? Then what?History will judge the complicit.

Speaking of the tap feature on credit cards now, that's all I'll do anymore unless I'm forced to hand it over to a waitress. After having had my credit card skimmed at a gas station I never insert my card into anything anymore if I can get away with it. I also love the feature at restaurants that allow you to pay by scanning the QR code.
