I don't believe that I have always had a samsung and my is a s9 and it still updates and all and before that one I didn't upgrade for like 7 years and it always upgraded...so I wouldn't worry about it

Disneysteve did you also get the insurance called AppleCare for $200? Anyone else do you get it? Not sure if I should get it as well. That's a pretty hefty amount.

We never buy insurance on our phones. Paying $200 to insure a $700 item is insane. It's right up there with extended warranties.

Totally I was just going to say that - phone insurance, etc. Thats all a waste of money.

Good call guys. I was thinking of getting the $249 option that covers theft and loss as well, but it's too expensive.

If you buy it through the cell phone company like tmobile it's ridiculous to be paying $50/month for $800 phone.

I did the trade in for $40. My wife had an 8 and got $75 for that. I looked at one other place and it was about the same.

On eBay at auction I sold this iPhone XR for $234 back in Aug 2022.

I'm not a believer in insurance plans for phones or devices. Maybe if you buy the device for a kid.

In lieu of that, I know I will drop my phone at some point. So I've always bought a big chunky case, and it's saved my device more than once! I currently have a Pelican case on my iPhone...I think it was another $50 or $60 bucks. The plastic isn't worth it, but the protection is.
                      History will judge the complicit.

I’m not comfortable selling a phone on eBay. Too many scammers out there. I trust Apple to properly take care of it.

Phone case question, do you have it, what kinds, etc. Or is a case even needed? Saw a commercial for iPhone once where it dropped and at the end of the commercial it said relax it's an iPhone.

My wife always gets an Otterbox because she's clumsy and tends to drop her phone a lot. Hers was $25.

I'm not clumsy but still like to protect it against chips and scratches, plus I like having something that gives a better grip. I got a no-name silicone case for $16.

She did buy us both screen protectors but I haven't put mine on yet.

Lots to unpack here. Hard shut down due to COVID at Foxconn in China where they make iPhones will drastically reduce supply of iPhones by I think they said 35%. I was lucky to pick up mine's last week. The phones are hand-made. The workers make $4.20/hr. In USA we are crying making $12 or even $15 an hour and want $20 minimum with no skills which of course will cause more inflation.

People being paid a living wage is not what's causing inflation. Remind us why minimum wage was enacted to begin with? While we're checking those notes, can we also take a look at the wage gap between when it was put in place and now?
