  • Back on June 7th I had to cancel a shipping label with USPS. My mistake, and the label was only ~$13. I waited the 21 days, and no refund had been processed. I finally sat down and reached eBay customer service today, day 44, still no refund. They went ahead and processed the refund, no questions asked. I was thankful to be able to reach a live person (versus their AI chat bot, which I find aggravating to use).

I'm glad that got taken care of, but for future reference, we (the experienced seller community) advise NEVER calling ebay. The phone reps are quite worthless. The preferred way to reach customer service is by sending a private message on the ebay Facebook page. That is staffed by an entirely different team, US-based and most are sellers themselves. The phone reps are foreign-based call center employees who know next to nothing about ebay. They just have scripts they follow and are notorious for giving wrong answers up to and including advice that can threaten your account if you follow it.

That's a good call-out. The first rep had a very thick accent and I could tell he was searching for information in a computer system / knowledge base. He identified my issue based on what I told him, and he read it back to me (probably the heading of the Knowledge Base entry he found). The issue was pretty simple - perhaps beyond what their AI bot can do, for example, they probably don't want an AI program to automatically issue refunds. For this issue, the process worked. I can see how it wouldn't work for more complex issues. The rep's job is to dispatch and close out the call, and providing incorrect information is one of the fastest ways to do that for a complex problem.

I don't fault anyone with an accent or being ineffective at resolving issues. That's on the parent company to staff customer-facing roles with people who can interface with their largest customer base and be equipped with the knowledge and access to solve issues. I'm glad to know messaging may provide a better path if I encounter issues in the future.

        • Sold this Quicksilver board shorts today for $15 + $8 shipping. Got it scanned at USPS today as well vs dropping it off at a blue mailbox receptacle which I used to do but learned from disneysteve that method is risky. Glad to declutter and make a little bit of money as well. A previous buyer for the Windows 11 CD hasn't left a review which I guess is better than a negative review.

            • It's a good feeling to get rid of it even if only $15.

Those small sales add up. Just one $15 sale per day is $5,500/yr.

                • July 2025 wrap up

                  ebay:
                  $1,114.53 gross
                  $809.57 net

                  Replacements:
                  $0

                  Marketplace:
                  $0

                  Total:
                  $1,114.53 gross
                  $809.57 net

As predicted, July was a solid month on ebay. As the kitchen remodel moved along, I was able to get back to listing - and selling. No china sold (to Replacements; I did sell china on ebay) though I did buy some that I need to work on packing and shipping. Nothing for Marketplace as that tends to be driven by decluttering efforts and with the kitchen underway, we really didn't spend any time working on clutter elsewhere in the house and it was too hot to work in the garage.

                  • Sold this today. The story behind it was I had ordered 202 ink from eBay but the seller sent me this 212. I contacted the seller and the seller refunded me and told me to keep it. So I listed it as an open box and today it sold for $15 and free shipping ($5 to ship using USPS ground advantage). Tomorrow I'll get at scanned at my local USPS.

Nice. So free to you and earned you about $10. That's the way to do it.

                      • I need to keep up the momentum. I have two items that don't want to move, but I didn't expect them to. I've sent offers to the one interested buyer but no dice yet. Meanwhile, I've sold everything else in this first batch, and used up all of my salvaged boxes and packing material. I met my goal of reusing all that stuff instead of throwing it away, the reason I saved it in the first place. I have some free time later this week so I'll try to get some new listings up.

I just took a look at your listings. The window deflectors are showing shipping to me of $31.11. That may be what's keeping them from selling. How long is the box? Over 22" USPS has a surcharge, and even higher over 30". For larger packages, UPS is generally the way to go. I'd recommend you check the rate for UPS Ground and if it's considerably cheaper, change to that.

Good feedback. Thanks. If I remember correctly, you and I are literally on opposite ends of the country. I will check out UPS to see if it is cheaper; the box is very long.

The USPS fee is $4 for over 22" and $18 for over 30".

                              • The ink that I sold was listed about 2 weeks ago. Yesterday I promoted it and it sold the same day but I’m not sure if it was a coincidence or the promotion worked but I was glad to pay the extra fee for promoting it. I’m guessing $2 extra.
