  • How much do you make in a day?

Me public sector employee, $40 per hour, 10 hours per day, so I gross $400 per day. Curious what others make?

Two decades ago as a journey plumber I also made $40 per hour but with age I can no longer do plumbing.

I've always has a hard time putting value to my time. I earn an annual salary (not time based). I'm in the military, and by some opinions, I'm on duty 24/7/365 (I've certainly been on enough deployments & TDYs, and gotten called in enough times from leave or at 3am on a Saturday...) In a typical week, I work 40-50 hrs, or in a busy week it exceeds 65 hrs, all for the same pay. Not to say that I'm paid poorly, I've always earned more than I need, and they're paying me to do something I mostly enjoy. Also, a fair chunk of my total compensation lies in tax benefits and no-cost medical services.

Worst case, I earn $320/day, if you go with the 24/7/365 idea. Take out 30 days/yr of leave, weekends, and federal holidays, a best case is closer to $540/day. Reality probably lies somewhere in between.

We had this type of discussion a lot when I was deployed. 24 hour days, 7 days a week resulted in a very low hourly pay. Over a 20 year career, I think I came up with $3.65 an hour or so. Wouldn't trade it for any other job. I was doing exactly what I wanted and getting paid to live my life's dream.

My current salary is $985 / day. My pension adds another $176 / day.

What rank are you kork? My husband is a major, with almost 26 years of service. I would guess he is similar. And BAH varies by location. It's a great paying job when one figures it on a typical work week, but when it is considered a 24/7/365 it isn't as great is it? Sometimes my husband thinks he is overpaid for the work, but I remind him of the lack of time off during deployments and training weeks. Of course, once he has a retirement check coming in for life, I'll probably think the time spent was worth it.

The military pension is very good. It is COLA'd which is worth a lot. It is also backed by the US Government and they seem keen on taking care of veterans, so it is secure. The best part I have found is the Tricare for life. I did the math and that is worth another $1M in the bank. And it lets you retire early without worrying about where to get your health care.

Everyone thanks me for my service. I am grateful for that. But I am quick to thank them for caring about vets and taking care of us.

Depends on the day. I earn between $70 and $120 per hour and I work between 7.5 and 12 hours per day. So there's no "standard" day.

                It depends.
Some days I work my primary job only. Some days I work both jobs. Some days I work my part time job only. Certain days of the month I receive dividends from stock holdings.

Senior Captain (should get Major in the next year or so), ~10 years in. But I'm in Alaska, so with the high cost of living, the BAH & COLA amount to over double the BAH I received at my last base in Oklahoma. So my current numbers are definitely inflated, by over $20k/yr. And as I said, I don't feel at all like I'm underpaid. But given the nature of the job (highly skilled, uncommon knowledge/expertise, wildly fluctuating and long hours, on-tap to deploy anytime, the whole "life in danger" thing when you deploy)... I wouldn't probably say we're vastly overpaid either. And some of the lower ranks (Enlisted primarily), I would say many of them are DEFINITELY underpaid.

I'm salary in IT field, so my hours may vary by day based on my workload. So avg 8hrs/day at 40 per hour, so $320 daily.
"I'd buy that for a dollar!"

Why would you? How much per hour, maybe, as that's a common income measure, but not how much per day.

For the past 17 years, I've been paid hourly, so I've always though in those terms. Now at my 2nd job, I'm also hourly so same thing.
