  • In the country where I live - The Czech Republic, the prices are going sharply up as well. Even people who did not pay much attention to it have noticed they are up by a significant margin. I think that is also why the crypto market is so up - because of high inflation rates across the world...

    • My local Walmart in Los Angeles has no turkeys, plenty hams. I hope we are not getting a taste of socialism. From a lifetime of over-abundances to severe shortages.

Eh, ham is great for Thanksgiving! And much easier to boot.

It's probably a local inventory issue and not socialism. Just a guess.

            • On Nov 11, the count was 81 ships waiting to port. Today my news in Los Angeles said 84. Gov Gavin Newsom & Mayor Eric Garcetti were there saying the antiquated equipment & system and shortage of drivers are to blame for the back log. They said it will continue into 2022.

I saw a news article about setting up some form of deployable port further north up the coast to relieve some of the excess? I can't find the article now, but if it's feasible, that would be an interesting solution to ease the pressure at the ports... It seems that CA's policies are also partly to blame for creating some of the shortages themselves -- I believe you even mentioned that certain types of trucks are not allowed to load from the ports?

                • Kork someone else talked about only newer model trucks such as 2012 or newer trucks needed to be used or something like that.

To move cargo between ports it requires american-flagged ships.

Trucks? Wouldn't be surprised if there was a clean air requirement for diesels and they weren't letting pre-DEF/SCR trucks to operate at the port? Where was it mentioned? I'd be curious to learn more about that.

Well, to be fair Safeway is higher than some other grocers, and Hawaii has to import everything. So, Hawaii's prices are higher than the mainland for that reason.

CA's policies at the ports are archaic.
There are actually rules in place that only allow certain COLORS of containers to be offloaded at certain times.
