  • Total annual credit card usage

I just reviewed the year-end summaries from 3 of our 4 credit cards (the 4th is DW's Discover which isn't more than a few hundred dollars). The total spending for the 3 cards was just over $58,500.

Even based on a 1% reward, that comes to $585. In reality, the total rewards are higher because we only use our Discover cards for the 5% bonus categories. Our Chase card also has 5% categories. And our Marriott card gives double points for restaurants and 5X points for charges at Marriott properties.

    * Why should I pay for my daughter's education when she already knows everything?

Eeks, I'm way too afraid to look at mine for this entire year. Maybe I'll wait until next year when it will no doubt be a more reasonable number.

I'm looking at $60,000. but because of our higher tier level with BofA's Travel Reward Visa, we received $1,687. in reward cash. Hard to believe everyone doesn't play this credit card reward game. It's basically free money.

Amount paid in finance charges and yearly fee's: $0.00

          Zero in finance charges

$85 in annual fees. The Marriott card has a fee but in return for that, we get a certificate good for one night at any hotel up to a category 5. To put that in perspective, I just looked at a category 5 hotel that we've actually been to a couple of times and are planning to go back to sometime soon and one night in April is $309. So that $85 is quite a bargain.

We did a better job with our spending in 2016 at $27,930. It was pretty close to being the lowest of the 7 years I have tracked it.

            2015 $29,445
            2014 $27,755
            2013 $31,992
            2012 $28,970
            2011 $29,763
            2010 $31,638

              Just the credit card spending.

              2016: $32,778
              2015: $44,169
              2014: $55,035
              2013: $33,286

              $0 interest, $0 fees.

Most people on SA (who aren't CCF) look to maximize CC usage!! (To get the bonus points, of course, without paying interest.)

Im not even sure. Had too many credit cards to go through. My total spending was $27,132. Not 100% accurate but I would say within a few hundred dollars.

Im not sure what my wifes expenses were. Less than mine.

Without doing the actual addition, I would estimate ours to have been about $30K.

Around 30k here. It will most likely be higher this year. About 2/3 of the way through the year we changed to using a credit card for everything instead just bills and other random things. I am thinking about churning a couple cards this year knowing we easily do 2-3k a month.

I'm also seriously considering getting the Citi 2% card, and making it our primary card.

I had to go through a lot of cards, which has now reaffirmed my plan to cancel more of them. Two had already been cancelled. Our annual spending on credit cards this year was $49,384. Probably 15% of that was travel expenses. We are sending our daughter on a two week vacation to Europe this summer (we prepaid in full), and we fly our older daughter home from college several times a year.

Also $0 in interest. Two cards have fees (Marriott and Southwest) for a total of $154. We get a one night at a hotel, and 6000 points towards an airline ticket. We did redeem a roundtrip flight worth $600 in 2016. The cost is worth the benefits.

Here's my blog post about our rewards tally in 2016.

My forum name was established at a time when we had paid off all credit card debt and literally did not have a credit card. In time we became more responsible and began to use credit cards for rewards. The spending would be the same, just not on credit cards had we not decided to use them again. Sorry for any confusion, but I'm keeping the forum name.
