It says something about commitment and work ethic. A degree is still worth obtaining.

    2. Like most degrees, the job possibilities are wide upon graduation and doing a little work. Education is what comes to mind for most people, and it’s true, one could become a professor with a degree in gender studies.

How about a Director of Marketing
    A licensed mental health therapist
    Director of Diversity and Inclusion
One could go on to pursue a medical degree in Gender Health
    Public relations
    HR
    Writer or Editor
    Lobbyist or political activist

…and that’s just off the top of my head.

A director of D&I might make $150k+ per year
When you're 18 years old and have a $0 net worth, education should be 100% about making money.

If a company is willing to hire someone based solely on them having a degree to check a box rather than the substance of what that degree is in, then their priorities are askew. They will pay for the choice with their bottom line.

As far as a Director of D&I, if a company sees value in paying someone to meet hiring quotas rather than hiring the best, most talented person for the job, they can afford to pay $150k because of the money they are saving on lower quality candidates.

If anything, the Biden administration should have pushed for the total cancellation of ALL federal student loan debt.
Where are you going to draw the line on these freebies?
How about reimbursing every living citizen that doesn't have loans for whatever they spent on higher education.
How about pay off everyone's mortgage and auto loans too.

I still want to know how this is inflationary...I mean I haven't seen the argument for it yet.

California is already leading the pack with UBI, universal basic income but this would be a topic for another thread (lol).

Did we ever have a thread like this on PPP loans which were all forgiven, and was basically a giant money grab?

I don’t recall the same degree of whining or moral judgement regarding taking money and never repaying it.

I mean, I have to pay for people’s stupid kids to go to school and I don’t even have any of my own. Then the parents demand that we buy them all computers and build them football stadiums.

Wait! Let me guess…. tHoSe TwO tHiNgS aRe DifFeReNt …
                History will judge the complicit.

This is a totally fair point, everyone was begging for PPP money - democrats, republicans, poor, rich, EVERYONE wanted the "free" PPP money.

Who qualifies for Biden’s plan to cancel $10,000 in student debt? (msn.com)

3.5 minute video of Biden explaining it.

                      Very respectfully, children are different.

I don’t have kids either but I am happy for my tax dollars to support the education of children (And I don’t want to put words in your mouth but l’d guess you are too?)

Of all the things our tax dollars go to, I’d love to see MORE support for children.

Children and adults (even if they’re just 18) are not the same.

PPP loans were a money grab and the program was widely abused. It’s fair criticism but not one that I think that applies to most people here.

Separate note: I appreciate the discussion and different view points. It’s okay for people to have different opinions.

                      • I don’t truly believe what I said about taxes and funding education. There are many educators in my family and I support public education even though I don’t have kids of my own. But this is an argument I’ve heard on this board, actually!

For comparison, more than $6,000 per year of our almost $14k annual state property tax bill goes to funding public schools.

Student loan forgiveness is estimated as a one-time cost of approximately $2100 to each taxpayer.

                        • James it's costing $2100 per taxpayer. This is a very bad policy hurting more people than it helps.

                          • Anyone with a lick of sense understands that with few exceptions, things that are given are typically not appreciated and cared for, while things that are worked for and earned are cared for and taken care of.
The majority of these recipients won't be any better off six months from now than they are now. They'll still be carrying student loans and will be looking for the next handout.

QMM - that's believable. Can you post an analysis or something along those lines so I can connect the dots.

                              • Actually James the amount I saw is higher at $2500 per taxpayer but I'm unable to locate it.
