2021 Decluttering Thread

I relisted 2 items on our Buy Nothing group. I had listed them last month but neither of the people who claimed them ever followed through. Someone claimed them both today and has already picked them up.

I just listed 3 items on Facebook Marketplace. I was going to do ebay but just don't want the hassle of having to pack and ship them. Hopefully they sell. If not, I'll probably give them away.

I listed a couple things on ebay. One item was a set of controllers I scrounged from a retail video game kiosk back in the 80s, I thought maybe I'd get $30...someone bought it for $196!

That's awesome. I love ebay surprises like that. You often don't know what you've really got until you put it up for auction to a worldwide audience.

A couple more items have been picked up. My wife listed some of her quilting books and magazines and one of those is already claimed, too.

Yesterday she managed to sell our queen-size bed frame that's been crowding our bedroom since we upgraded to a king-size bed in October. More surprising was that the buyer lives in a different state, 300mi/5hrs away!

It'll be a couple weeks before they drive out this way to pick it up, but they paid half upfront, and we're glad to be soon getting our floor space back. We've got a large beanbag lounger that's been waiting to get in that space.

The buyers of our queen bed drove up our way yesterday & picked up the bed! Thrilled to have it gone!

Dropped off the item I sold on Marketplace. $7 in my pocket and one less thing in the house.

My wife listed some of her quilting books and magazines and one of those is already claimed, too.

Two items got claimed, but only one person actually showed up. I took the other items and listed them on Facebook Marketplace for $10 and somebody bought them. They're coming in the morning to get them.

I love when we can't give something away for free but we can sell it. That happened a few weeks ago with a vacuum cleaner. Tried to give it away. Nobody wanted it. But somebody bought it for $15 on Marketplace.

We paid off our mortgage back in 2019 but I never cleared out all of the paperwork. I just went through the file and only kept the documents showing we paid off each of the loans (we had refinanced a few times and had a HEL at one point). Everything else went into the shredding pile.

I also cleared out a file folder of old casino annual win/loss statements and reward club paperwork. We are no longer regular casino goers (well not at all since COVID but even before that). Just for "fun" I added up our documented losses and they came to well over $7,000 over the course of 5 years. It sounds like a lot but that really only works out to a little over $100/month. Going to the casinos used to be a main source of entertainment for us. Those losses were also offset to an extent by some of the perks that came along with that gaming: meals, drinks, show tickets, parking, hotel rooms, merchandise gifts. Anyway, all of the paperwork is in the shredding pile now.

One item I listed on ebay last week sold today. The other didn't and got relisted. To be totally honest, I forgot I even listed things.

January was a good month for me to get rid of stuff! I set a goal to get rid of another 500 items this year and 218 have already left the house!

Last years goal was similar with 500 items but I ended up getting rid almost double that!

Sold a lamp on Marketplace today. $10 gained, one more item out of the house.

Broke down boxes, threw out broken boxes, going to donate clothes = parking in the garage. 11 months to get one car back in the garage. A year ago with the pandemic we decided to use it for storage and doing stuff. Well look what happened. We kept on leaving stuff in there. I got upset and drew a line in the sand. We were going to PARK in the garage.

This is a VERY firm line for DW & I (gratefully we're on the same page here). A garage is for cars. If you need to store stuff, get a shed, attic, basement, closet, or storage unit. The garage protects my car (and my comfort) from hot & cold weather, as well as from the jerks who invariably wander the streets checking for unlocked cars, or even go straight up smash & grab (no matter how nice the neighborhood or if there's anything even in the car). I'll let the cars stay outside for a day or three if needed for a specific project. But it's going right back in ASAP.

LOL. We are the exact opposites. Back in 2000 we had a car fire in our driveway. Had it been in our garage, we would have lost our house. You couldn't pay my wife enough to put a car in the garage. Yes it was a fluke but it did happen to us.
